I agree with this fellow. Equipment that boost attack, defense, and speed should be legal; however, constant healing and item spawning should be regulated/banned. I think that the addition of custom moves and stat modifiers to characters can finally add a lot of diversity between them. Then again...stat boost should also be regulated as well. Don't need an already strong (In terms of attack and speed) character getting extra beefy or any stronger than areas that they excel in.I beg to differ. Some equipment automatically heals characters 2% every few seconds, which can really add up after a while. Matches starting with a Home-Run Bat in hand could also get ugly.
I think we should allow custom moves and equipment in the meta, but it should definitely follow clauses and regulation.
Robin's move requires positioning and timing, whereas this passive 2% healing is constantly in effect. It's more effective while camping, but the fact of the matter remains that over the course of a life, that healing can be the difference between one game-changing smash and surviving long enough to retaliate. I'm making plenty use of this myself as Jigglypuff and R.O.B. The results are very, very noticable.I was talking about stat changes not item ones because items are banned in tournaments anyway. And as for the 2% thing there is a character that does something similar that is robin. Its just giving me a chance to have something similar and 2% is nothing unless your camping.
I agree whole-heartedly up to that end point. Given how every single piece of equipment comes with a trade-off, I think it's fine to allow things like Meta Knight becoming even speedier than normal. If a player wishes to min-max their character, that should be allowed, as the drawbacks become as noticeable as the benefits. Shulk's custom move that exaggerates the boosts and penalties of his Monado Arts should otherwise be banned in itself for following the exact same principle of min-maxing.I agree with this fellow. I totally forgot about the drawback part. I agree with you 100%.Robin's move requires positioning and timing, whereas this passive 2% healing is constantly in effect. Given, if both players have said healing equipped, one could make for the point that it's fair and keeps the dynamics balanced, but generally speaking, if technique A has to be chosen to counter technique A, then technique A is superior to any other technique in the first place. In other words, it might ironically allow less room for customization if everyone begins to select it.

Same as how IVs are randomly generated in Pokemon, competitive play would simply use the most efficient numbers. Every equipment has a certain range on how much it adds or subtracts, after all. It's far from impossible to work with. The values on equipment are randomly generated; we can't use them for competitive play even if we wanted to.
Couldn't you just not wear equipment if that's your concern? A patch for that seems rather unnecessary.I don't see why there is no option to enable custom specials while having equipment disabled at the same time.
You can equip 3 opposing pieces of gear for a huge stat boost with no downsides.
The entire reason I signed up to the forum just now is to bring to attention the lack of such an option.
Is there a chance it could be patched in?
It's not entirely random, like I pointed out with SmashWiki's Equipment entry. Even through its variance, there will definitely be top "builds" for any given character. And also is equipment really random meaning no one will have the same one?
You can just make them like that, at least the game already shows characters with no equipment as "balanced" with a gray, empty circle, so you can know from a first glance who has equipment and who doesn't.I don't see why there is no option to enable custom specials while having equipment disabled at the same time.

that doesn't prevent other participants from wearing equipment, and if you choose to alternate between having matches with and without equipment you would need to create twice as many custom charactersCouldn't you just not wear equipment if that's your concern? Considering how the only time you're allowed to use custom moves is with friends, it should be just be something you simply agree upon ahead of time. Enforcing a house-rule like that otherwise sounds completely trivial, imo.that doesn't prevent other participants from wearing equipment, and if you choose to alternate between having matches with and without equipment you would need to create twice as many custom characters
