I don't exactly expect this, but I think this is something that would fit in line very well with the ideas behind both the 3DS and Wii U version. The whole "personal experience" thing on the 3DS and the sharing thing on the Wii U. Something that says "that's me!" to yourself, and to anyone seeing your replays. Really, this is something any online fighting game should have. I think only a couple have had it, though.

It sounds trivial at first, but who doesn't have some connection with their character and a particular color palette? I know I'm always yellow Yoshi or pink ROB. To create your own palette for a color would create an even more personal connection with your character. For an online community, it's helpful to have a little something that makes you stand out like that.

I doubt it would get too detailed if implemented. Maybe only have a few "parts" of a character to change and a limited selection of colors, but even that would probably get the job done. After you select a character, it'd probably have its own little box to click like the name function. Come to think of it, maybe you could even attach some to a name. WHAT I'M GETTING AT THOUGH is that as far as feasibility goes, it shouldn't be a problem.

ANYWAY THAT'S ALL PRETTY BORING. How about we list what custom colors we'd use for our characters, new or old, likely or not.

I call pink Ridley with yellow wings. Just to throw in a third color... I guess... blue eyes works well enough.

We could use the touchscreen to color the character. That would be possible for both the 3ds and Wii U versions. :awesome:

I would ad "stickers",wouldn't look like actual stickers but drawings/tattoos on characters,or more than just a color like stripped colors and stuff. If it's too much , I'll be fine with custom palettes anyway.

Yeah, that Tekken Whatever on the Wii U has something like that I think.

Actually I guess this would all be a lot like Halo. You could choose a couple colors for your armor and then create your own emblem.

Oh yeah, maybe some fancy unlockable colors? I figure GOLD would be an obvious choice. I would say GLOWY (especially with a real lighting system. so cool) colors too, but I wonder if that would get in the way of certain attack effects or... just be annoying in general.

This is a good idea, indeed. In fact, since Sakurai hinted at character customization, I've been wishing for a feature like this. The touch screens in both 3DS and Wii U pads open way to many possibilities, including this one.

The tattoos idea is also a nice.

I support this idea. We could practically recreate things like Prince Fluff of Kirby and Dark Samus of Metroid.

ZSS + color customization= nude. :awesome:
Actually, some recent games restrict colors in some cases for reasons such as this. In Tag 2, there are certain costume parts that can not be within a certain range of red shades to prevent nude colors.

Unfortunately, KOF XIII missed this with Raiden who can easily be given a streaker look. It's not pretty.

@PowerOfAllDragons: I DUNNO ABOUT THAT. I figure it wouldn't be THAT elaborate. Things like eye and skin color would be left out in most cases, I think.

@Frostwraith: And yeah, the touchscreens would make it extremely intuitive. Just tap on a section of the character (I assume the areas that could be colored would be outlined) and click on a color, and it's done.

With this sort of feature already in place, I bet the developers could make use of it in a story mode or the event matches.

Outside of a Pink Ridley, I'm betting everything Oasis colors will be Brown.

Custom colours are a better addition then custom characters in my opinion. They'd work nicely for every character and add that "personalized" feel that Sakurai wants for the game.

It would be a pretty cool feature to make your own color swaps. I could see this happening with the 3ds version as its supposed to be a more personal single player experience. you could probably make stuff like Light Suit Samus or Old School Mario.

I'd like this, even if only so that I could (legitimately) alter Nana in the Ice Climbers' blue palette so that the two climbers aren't so hard for me to tell apart. But I could definitely see myself having fun messing around with every character to some extent. Shiny Charizard, Sonic/Lucario with actual color swaps, solid gold Captain Falcon...

Color customization tends to undermine the individuality of characters a little bit. Especially in Smash where the alternate palettes are making specific references most of the time.

So I guess this means every looney with a Sonic recolor gets to have their fanboy dreams of their "oc" in Smash 4. ¦D

And I say Smash 4 in particular because texture hacks already gave them their dreams for Brawl. XD

As awesome as the idea sounds, I don't think I want to see a bunch of generic black recolors online. Hopefully there'd be a toggle option.

Its a cool idea, but nobody wants to face neon green Metaknights or black-everything Ike all the time. I say just stick with the current palette system, aren't most of them references anyways, like Mario, Samus, and Link? Sure, Sonic needs better swaps, but you would see soooo many fan-character swaps.

I'm not rooting for it :x

I could make an ACTUAL Blood Falcon alt.

All fighting games need this, I don't get why they don't all have it.

Do you also think it's obnoxious that people have different colored cars?
If you mean lime green body with red flames and zebra stripes, bright pink rims and tinted baby blue windows then yeah that's pretty obnoxious. I'm not saying different colors are bad I'm saying having people make epik all pink characters will get old really fast.

A feature like this would be awesome! Namco helping out even makes this kinda plausible, especially when you look at something like Soul Calibur which has its very detailed customization options. Making an extra palette swap doesn't seem too out of the question.

heck
I really hope that if this happens, Pikachu and Jigglypuff's fur can be colored.

Not that I don't like the hats, but this would be a cool addition.

Well then let's hope, for your sake and the sake of others, that there's an option to disable the viewing of custom colors in online play.

I'm hoping it's not in because Mario, Donkey Kong etc are not stupid create-a-characters and should have colors chosen for them by professionals.
