Smash Lord

This will be my 1000th post on Smash world forums, and I feel like now is a good a time as any to write my first blog. A forum can be most suitably defined as a medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas, but there have been too many times where I've witnessed smashboards contradict this definition. Being instead an avenue for elitism and partisanship. I have seen this forum go through many changes. From the melee players using all of there energies to bash Brawl, to the dissent over the first Brawl tier list, to the all the commotion over whether or not MK warranted a ban. Much of what I've seen in these boards has made me almost uncomfortable posting my opinion at times, because of a lot of the SWF superiority, in which if you don't concur with the majority of posters, then you are (more or less) burned at the stake. There have been a lot of instances in which I was wrongly accused of trolling, and as a direct result of those accusations, I was flamed by multiple members, most of which claimed something ridiculous like "I don't know anything about this game." I would be a fool to post on a forum concerning a game if I didn't know anything about said game. I have gone from my posts being completely ignored, to being labeled as a nuisance and flamed, to having every opinion I pitch be shot down as if it didn't hold any kind of weight or value. Hopefully, with my new title as Smash Lord, I'll be able to receive at least a small amount of increased respect (although I seriously doubt that will happen).
Now, I don't wanna seem like the only purpose behind writing this blog is to ***** and moan and complain and john about the injustices I've suffered at the behest of the overlords of SWF (/dramatics). I've also seen a lot of good in these boards. Lots of friendships and alliances that have been formed that, otherwise, would have been utterly impossible. Sometimes I find myself getting lost in the off topic forums, including anime and other games etc. Smashboards has become a something of family, for me at least. Words can't express how happy I am to have found people who love this game of smash as much, if not (in some cases), more than I do. So, in that aspect, I am grateful to have stumbled across such an oasis of gaming.
There's a lot of conversation that occurs on this website. Honestly though, how much of it really pertains to Smash? Most of the time, while browsing through the boards, I spend my time searching for something interesting and thought provoking to read. It is for this reason alone that I wish I could see what kind of discussions take place in the backroom. Another problem I have is that if there is intriguing and influential discussion occurring back there (and I'm sure there is), wouldn't it be more beneficial to the community to fill us in on what's going on? Wouldn't that help developing the metagame of many characters, as opposed to just high tier? I fully understand the exclusiveness of SBR. Its almost like the golden fleece, if you will, of the entire community, and I'm not suggesting that you diminish its value whatsoever. But I don't see what could be so wrong about putting up threads of important and stirring discussion for the viewing pleasure of the boards. Make it a single post thread that we cant post on, or even have your discussion, and then allow the boards to view it and respond, much like you did with the weekly character discussion.
Anyway, I think this much will do for my monumental 1000th post.
Here's to the boards.
