Not making excuses / Johns, but I am new-ish with Olimar. I used him before unlocking Sonic, started to use him as a co-main before putting Brawl away for a few months, and now that I've picked up Brawl again I'm trying to figure out which character to cast my lot with.

In watching some videos, I've picked up on the dair spike and the fair-to-edgeguard. As I practice more I will integrate the grabs and throws, and get better with my Pikmin throwing.

So, whatever advice you Olimainers have would be awesome. Again, I'm a novice with him and certainly not claiming to be a pro, so "lol n00b" is not really going to help me.

BTW I noticed a couple other "critique my Oli" threads, but no official all-encompassing critique thread. If there is one and I've missed it please let me know and I'll be glad to post the video there.

Ok. You have a bit of work to do.
My initial advice is for you to youtube an Olimar main and try out some things they do.
Read a guide on him. I suppose Fino's thread taking from a bunch of people would be good for this.

If you find Fino's thread isn't sufficient (It should be) then try looking for my own or NC-Echo's thread (however old it may be).

Now what you need to work on is the basic move set Olimar has.
Try doing nairs, try doing a -lot- less ftilts. You used tilts more than moves with pikmin.
Try grabbing, I heard that's good.

-Down throw into fair.
-Approach less and unexpectedly.
-Don't upair close to the ground like you did a bit where it makes Olimar bounce.
-Try to not dair heavy into the ground at your stage of the game. When you know what to follow it up with, then you can. (Though, it's never a good idea in the first place).
-Forward B and UP B in the air.
-Pivot grab. Look it up.

Try getting some game play with humans. Watching or playing them will make you familiar with the game itself much faster than computers.

EDIT: If any elaboration is required, I will do so as I left a bunch out that I'd rather not type till you cover what I said.

Pivot Grab
How to Perform: While running, press Shield + A + backwards (on the joystick) or Grab + Backwards simultaneously.
Effect: Character turns 180 degrees and does a backwards-aimed Grab while sliding in the direction of the initial run.

Whew. That'll take some time to perfect.

Gotcha. I've seen that nair is good to use as well. Approach less, camp moar. I'll get used to that gradually. With Sonic I had to constantly put the pressure on, this is almost the direct opposite.

YouTubing was how I picked up the dair spike, I believe it was in fact NC-Echo that I saw do it.

I'll get some more up in the next few days.
