SWF's blogging feature is pretty cool. I've never kept a Diary since I could never be bothered with something like that. But blogging on the internet seems worthwhile since I'm posting stuff that people other than myself will probably read.
So this weekend is a long weekend in Australia. January 26th is Australia Day, a national day of pride. Where we all come together to celebrate the popular version of Australia that we like to advertise. Mateship, beer, lamb on barbeques, more Australian colloquialisms than we usually use.
Speaking of Colloquialisms, I'm completely buggered after playing Cricket at yesterday's STD (Smash til Dawn).
Yesterday began at about 10:30am. 'Amaterasu', who is Australia's most successful MK player (Most successful player in Australia period), came to pick up both me and my long time crew mate 'Moose' from my place to head to Browns Plains.
My friend known here as 'DJ Cat' was holding yet another epic smashfest that people were free to attend til the next day. Browns Plains funnily enough is also the place that I was born. My parents used to own a house there too. DJ's house is located on a relatively large lot of land. Large enough to play cricket on in fact. In 3 overs I'd only managed to score about 8 runs, and I was pretty crap at bowling, but we all had a lot of fun (despite how sore I am now).
Before that though, I wound up playing Melee all day with Amaterasu. It's been a long time since I'd played Melee like I have been recently. There's one thing that I have to remind myself to do whenever I play Falco, and that's to 'Play faster'.Pretty odd, yes, but that particular mantra works. At the beginning of the day my Falco was pretty sloppy with messed up pillars and what not. As soon as I told myself to speed up though, my pillaring became perfect (or at least, a lot better) and I was pulling out the comboes I used to do all day a year ago.
Before we went outside to play cricket we also watched some animated movies made by DJ and his room mate Dino. They were made using a program called '3D Movie Maker' for windows. It's pretty user friendly from the look of it too. The movies we watched in particular were pretty funny. All the characters are a depiction of their Tasmanian friends (Tasmania being a small island representing Australia's second smallest state/territory) in storylines that reference their past antics and in-jokes alongside absurd adventures with rediculously long fight scenes. I voiced one of the characters.
By the time we'd finished with Cricket it was getting getting dark. We played smash for a couple more hours, and then it was time to indulge in an Aussie Smash tradition. Eating at Sizzler. Sizzler is a buffet, you pay $20 for the buffet and extra money for a meat dish to be served to you. The buffet itself contains a wealth of different foods, drinks and dessert for when you get to the end.
You can see why we wanted to go to Sizzler so badly. We hadn't eaten all day, and the thought of being to eat til we had no room left seemed like a very inviting prospect. Getting there was interesting though. We managed to squeeze into two cars, I decided to ride with our hosts whilst my friend 'Scrubs' followed in the car behind us. Or at least that was the plan. Arrow, another smasher, decided that he would go see his girl friend and come back while we were having dinner. He didn't manage to make it back though, said he used too much boost power and something about his engine blowing and needing maximum acceleration for Snaking.
More to the point, Arrow was having trouble plotting a course to his girl friend's house with his map, so DJ stopped to help him while Scrubs took off, planning to meet us at a petrol station up the road. Eventually we were able to make a break, and when we made it there, we found Scrubs trying to transfer money to his bank account so he could pay for the fuel he purchased.
In the meantime we decided to get out and walk around, DJ opting to pump up his tires. Once we were on the road again, Sizzler not more than 20 minutes away, all was going good til we discovered that Scrubs' car was nowehere to be found behind us. We had to call them periodically to try and get them on course for the Hyperdome, the mall where the Sizzler was located. We were almost at the Hyperdome when DJ went to hand me his phone to call them again and found that it wasn't in his pocket. He'd lost it. Thinking back, it was more than likely back at the petrol station fifteen minutes ago, and we ended up going straight back to go look for it.
Dino called his phone when we got there. Nothing. We parked in front of a fire hose reel with an Owl perched on it and began to look around. Unfortunately though, a good ten minutes of searching and talking to the attendant had turned up nothing.
We decided that any plan of attack couldn't be deliberated on an empty stomach, so we set off again towards the Hyperdome. Halfway there we received a call from Scrubs informing us that they would stop serving food at 9pm. The clock in the car read 8:50pm so we floored it to the tune of 'Stayin' Alive'. After parking and racing up two sets of stairs we made it right on time, taking a table for six.
It was a pretty interesting night to say the least. After finally making it back to DJ's, I finally got in some Brawl practice against Amaterasu, he proceeding to tear apart my Diddy Kong with Snake and MK. I could only call sleepiness Johns.
I decided to leave with him at about 12 or so. I wanted to be at home today when I woke up. Plus I'm still not completely over my current bout of the flu, so I sought my own bed for some shut eye.
I don't want these memories to dry up and disappear. I want to be able to remember these days and laugh and wonder why the heck I wasted so much time on this game (besides the fact that these smashers are my best friends). I'm glad SWF has a blogging tool. I really am.
