I can already tell before posting this that it's going to get a lot of facepalms and "that's just a stupid idea" responses, but I'm bored so here it is anyways!
What if you could make substitutions in crews? Not infinitely, but perhaps, depending on the size of the crew battle, anywhere from 1-3? First, let me further define substitutions with examples.
R1, TeamA fox vs TeamB sheik
fox wins with two stocks left
R2 TeamA fox vs TeamB falco
For sake of explanation let us assume: This falco = rapesticks. Not only does he 0-death the fox in one sexy fluid piece of platform abusing shine combo, he taunts. The fox player, disheartened and crying on the inside, loses faith in his abilities (not that they would have saved him) and after losing his last stock in the same way goes home to cry.
Now let's see how this turns out with substitution
***REWIND***
After getting *****, the fox subs out with one stock remaining and TeamA sends in an amazing anti-falco counterpick player. Fox player is still ashamed but doesn't commit suicide.
Rules of the substitution
-----------------------------
1. Substitution can only be done if the player has won the previous match
2. Substitution can only be done by the player if he is in an angelic state (still on the floater thingy, if he has dropped down and invulnerable, too late)
3. If a substitution is done, the other player may do ONE of the following. Repick Character, Change stage.
Reason WHY someone should at least give this a try.
Melee has been around for 7 years, we need to find as many ways to keep it fresh as we can.
Please note guys, I know this may come off as a "I DONT LIKE SOMETHING ABOUT CREWS SO WE SHOULD PUT THIS NEW RULE IN SO I DONT GET *****" but really, I just want to see something new happen. I think if anything, these substitutions could add to some different strategies. I also think it could add some really broken strategies.
On another side note, this would change how crews are viewed slightly, as you'd have to keep track of each individual players stock as opposed to the whole crew's stock.
So please, discuss, and let's try to keep this serious. Let's pick at the idea of substitutions and if it jsut won't work then fine, we can let the thread die and forget about it. But I want to explore the possibility of having substitutions. All I'm asking is, please put some thought into it, because I have >_>
