I'm sorry if this thread was made, but if it has been, it's pretty old.

This thread idea has been a hit in other forums so I wanna see how it does here. You can make it as unique or as standardized as you'd like. Just a few things to keep in mind:

-What does you gym leader specialize in?
-Any notable design choices to their gym?
-What is their roster (low level, high level, somewhere in between)?
-What rewards does the gym leader give out (money, badge, TM)?

You're free to make as many or as few as you'd like. I'll start with an example:

Gym Leader Craig
Rock-type specialist
8th gym leader of his region
11600 PokeDollars, Tomb Badge, and TM71 Stone Edge for winning

The gym is covered in sand and many trainers leap out while traversing to challenge the player. Certain trainers have a key and these keys must be acquired to open a door to the next room. Each room has a Strength puzzle to pass through, including the last room needing to specifically place several boulders on switches.

Craig's team:

Tyranitar Lv.55, Sand Stream ability, w/Smooth Rock
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Crunch
-Dragon Dance

Gigalith Lv.55, Sturdy ability
-Stone Edge
-Iron Head
-Stealth Rock
-Superpower

Carracosta Lv.54, Sturdy ability
-Aqua Jet
-Stone Edge
-Body Slam
-Curse

Tyrantrum Lv.54, Rock Head ability
-Head Smash
-Dragon Claw
-Rock Polish
-Thunder Fang

Rhyperior Lv.58, Solid Rock ability, w/Leftovers
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Fire Punch
-Megahorn

Gym Leader Murlough
Psychic Type
6th Gym Leader
7000 PokeDollars, Sight Badge, TM63 Psyshock

I'd set up a mix between Sabrina's teleporters and the puzzle maniac's mazes. There would be the Gym Leader immediately at the entrance of the Gym but with psychic barriers stopping the trainer from challenging him. The trainer would have to navigate through the many teleporters and battle the four Ace trainers holding up the psychic barriers. There would still be lesser trainers out and about to battle as well but beating them would not remove a barrier.

My/Murlough's team

Reuniclus Lv. 43, Magic Guard, w/Leftovers
-Psyshock
-Calm Mind
-Recover
-Trick Room

Medicham Lv. 42, Pure Power, w/Life Orb
-High Jump Kick
-Poison Jab
-Fake Out
-Psycho Cut

Gardevoir Lv. 45, Trace, w/Gardevoirite
-Psyshock
-Hyper Voice
-Thunder Bolt
-Focus Blast

Slowbro Lv 43, Regenerator, w/Leftovers
-Scald
-Slack Off
-Calm Mind
-Thunder Wave

Meowstic-M Lv 44, Prankster, w/Leftovers
-Psychic
-Light Screen
-Reflect
-Substitute

Metagross, Lv 44, Clear Body, w/Life Orb
-Bullet Punch
-Meteor Mash
-Zen Headbutt
-Earthquake

If I were a Gym Leader. . .

Gym Leader Muskrat!
I would lead the ground type gym and give out the tunnel badge.
I would be a medium-high level gym leader, probably gym 7.
My gym would be constructed somewhat like an Ant Farm, with twisty tunnels going in various directions, making a sort of three dimensional maze since it goes deeper into the earth as well as across it. Trainers would be waiting around corners to battle challengers, and give them hints on where to go if the challenger beats them. I wait for challengers in the deepest part of the tunnels, where I battle challengers with my ground type team:

First time challengers face this team:

Flygon - M lv 54 with levitate holding a Choice Scarf
- U turn
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Defog

Steelix - M lv 54 with Sturdy holding a Steelixite
- Curse
- Earthquake
- Gyro ball
- Stone edge

Marowak - lv 52 with Rock Head holding a Thick Club
- Bonemerang
- Double-Edge
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off

When I am rematched, I use those three Pokémon but 15 levels higher in addition to:

Tyranitar - lv 70 with Sand Stream holding a Smooth Rock
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Fire Blast

Excadrill - lv 68 with Sand Rush holding a Life Orb
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Swords Dance

Torterra - lv 69 with Overgrow holding a Big Root
- Giga Drain
- Frenzy Plant
- Earthquake
- Crunch

Eh, wynaut?

I am still waiting for my second favourite type to get a Gym specialist...I am interested to see how Dark would be implemented as a gym...

Gym Leader Selene
Dark type specialist
8th Gym Leader in the region
12,500, Night Badge, New TM Eclipse
Eclipse-weather effect that lasts for 5 turns boosts Dark type attacks and boosts moon based attacks (ie, Moonlight, Moonblast)

The gym is focused around a night theme with moderate lighting that mimics moonlight. The floor has a night sky feel to it with stars and celestial effects covering it...upon closer inspection you should be able to make out certain obstacles by their silhouette...some of these obstacles include several gym trainers which hide in darkness waiting to ambush...Various floating platforms and warp panels will eventually lead you to the top where the gym leader is waiting on what appears to be the moon...

Pokemon:
Sableye Lv 52
Foul Play
Shadow Claw
Fake Out
Detect

Umbreon Lv 53
Foul Play
Swagger
Moonlight
Eclipse

Absol Lv 53
Night Slash
Psycho Cut
Swords Dance
Play Rough

Weavile Lv 54
Fake Out
Screech
Night Slash
Metal Claw

Zoroark Lv 55
Night Daze
U-turn
Eclipse
Torment

Here's another gym, going backwards

Gym Leader Bri
Flying-type specialist
7th gym leader of the region
10200 PokeDollars, Air Badge, and TM19 Roost for winning

The gym has air currents which will blow off and on as the gym is navigated. The player will need to move through the gym, pushing through the currents that they will impede them while going along with the currents which will push them farther into the gym. Some parts on the path to the Gym Leader are broken up and only a current can push the player over a small ramp with enough force to make it to the next section.

Bri's team:

Skarmory Lv.48, Sturdy ability
-Spikes
-Roost
-Acrobatics
-Tailwind

Noivern Lv.48, Frisk ability, w/Yache Berry
-Boomburst
-Roost
-Dragon Pulse
-Hurricane

Crobat Lv.47, Infiltrator ability
-Cross Poison
-U-Turn
-Brave Bird

Talonflame Lv.49, Gale Wings ability, w/Charti Berry
-Roost
-Flare Blitz
-Brave Bird
-U-Turn

Gliscor Lv.51, Poison Heal, w/Toxic Orb
-Roost
-Earthquake
-Cross Poison
-Rock Slide

I might do rematch teams at some point.

Time for a whole region, and this time, I'm switching things around from what my last post was. I really like the type choices I went with and where everything is placed. The names represent their types, according to 20000-names.com. I'll be doing another post another day that will be the same region's League but in a hypothetical what-if several years later scenario, think the Kanto league of Gold/Silver and their remakes or the Unova region of Black 2/White 2.

Dark-type specialist
1st Gym Leader of region
Rewards winners with the Dusk Badge, 3000 PokeDollars, and TM97 - Dark Pulse

Bio: A young man in his late teens, with hair slicked back, wearing dark clothing with chains. Pale skin and usually has a smug look on his face. Very distant, but not malicious. Recently took up a Gym Leader position as a means for a region with a League to represent an underrepresented type.

Houndour Lv.13

Ability: Early Bird
-Bite
-Ember
-Roar
-Dark Pulse

Umbreon Lv.13
Ability: Synchronize
-Dark Pulse
-Pursuit
-Sand-Attack
-Heal Bell

Honchkrow Lv.15 w/Sitrus Berry
Ability: Super Luck
-Night Slash
-Wing Attack
-Haze
-Dark Pulse
Electric-type specialist
2nd Gym Leader of region
Rewards winners with the Electron Badge, 4400 PokeDollars, and TM93 - Wild Charge

Bio: A professional, yet energetic and passionate middle-aged man, likely about 34. Dark skin, wears a leather jacket and gloves with dark pants and a white shirt (think Michael Jackson in the Billie Jean video, similar to that but not exactly). Extremely friendly.

Helioptile Lv.20

Ability: Dry Skin
-Quick Attack
-Mud-Slap
-Thunder Wave
-Wild Charge

Flaaffy Lv.20
Ability: Static
-Wild Charge
-Signal Beam
-Thunder Wave
-Thunderbolt

Raichu Lv.22 w/Sitrus Berry
Ability: Static
-Thunderbolt
-Grass Knot
-Brick Break
-Volt Tackle
Ghost-type specialist
3rd Gym Leader of region
Rewards winners with the Enigma Badge, 5600 PokeDollars, and TM30 - Shadow Ball

Bio: Enigmatic and graceful, wearing a short light blue dress covered in black frills and black high heel shoes with thigh high socks. She loves to dance and make vague, mystical metaphors. Friendly, but quiet-talking. Fairly young, roughly early 20s.

Drifloon Lv.26
Ability: Aftermath
-Hex
-Gust
-Will-O-Wisp
-Shadow Ball

Froslass Lv.26
Ability: Cursed Body
-Icy Wind
-Shadow Ball
-Draining Kiss
-Confuse Ray

Gengar Lv.28 w/Gengarite
Ability: Levitate (Mega Gengar: Shadow Tag)
-Hex
-Clear Smog
-Hypnosis
-Dream Eater
Ice-type specialist
4th Gym Leader of region
Rewards winners with the Cold Badge, 6800 PokeDollars, and TM79 - Frost Breath

Bio: A dignified woman in her mid-to-late 30s, with platinum blonde hair and very pale skin. She wears a grey pea coat covering an elegant pink and grey dress and wears thermal pink stockings and grey heeled shoes. She also has a pink scarf and expensive glass earrings that look like icicles. Speaks politely and concisely.

Abomasnow Lv.31 w/Icy Rock

Poison-type specialist
5th Gym Leader of region
Rewards winners with the Venom Badge, 8000 PokeDollars, and TM09 - Venoshock

Bio: Not unlike Koga, Naga is a stealthy ninja Gym Leader, however, he's more charismatic, even borderline smug. Somewhat young, being about mid-to-late 20s. He speaks in a direct tone. He wears a typical ninja costume, black in color, with a red scarf. His hair is a deep purple and fairly short and spiky (not quite like Koga's, but fairly close).

Bio: She's a rough and nature-loving girl who loves to explore caves. She is the daughter of a miner, and is fascinated by ores, and is easily excitable overall at new prospects. She idolizes Steven Stone. Her mannerisms can be best described as "clumsy" or "sloppy". She's quite young, and actually the youngest Gym Leader, somewhere in her mid-teens. She wears grey short shorts and red sneakers, with a plain white tank top and a red sweater tied around her waist much like Candice, and she has a slight tan and has messy, curly, long dark hair.

Bio: Adam is a calm young man in his early 20s, happy to see tough challengers, but overall not very active or charismatic. What he makes up for in a lack of energy or any outstanding traits, he makes up for in ability, and is a small talker who prefers to get straight to battling.

You don't get to be a Gym Leader without knowing how to spend Full Restores.

I did this in a different thread, but it's pretty applicable here, it's got a few gym leaders I made.

Gym 1: The Onset Badge (Starters Only)
Leader: Oakley (I apparently named them. Homage to Professor Oak, I guess? Don't really remember)
Chesnaught
Delphox
Greninja
Charizard
Venusaur
Marshtomp

Gym 2: The Sewer Badge (Turtle Gym)
Leader: April
Carracosta (Nicknamed Donnie)
Torterra (Nicknamed Mikey)
Torkoal (Nicknamed Raph)
Blastoise (Mega's, nicknamed Leo)
Linoone (Nicknamed Splinter)
Krookodile (Nicknamed Leatherhead)

Gym 3: Jurassic Badge (Prehistoric/Rock) (this Gym is 3 on 3 battles!)
Leader: Fred
Omastar (Nicknamed Lord Helix because that's the name of my Omastar)
Tyrantrum
Aurorum
Cradily
Shieldon
Aerodactyl (Mega)

Gym 4: Claw Badge (Kitty gym)
Leader: Bubs
Mienshao
Purugly
Weavile
Luxray
Pyroar
Espurr

Gym 5: The Scout Badge (Prepared for expected weaknesses)
Leader: Al
Emolga
Elektross
Spirtomb
Gliscor
Mawile
Flygon

Gym 6: Osmosis Badge (Water Absorb team... this one's hard to get, a lot of these are Hidden ability, this gym is 2 vs 2 battles)
Leader: I guess Jones?
Lapras
Cacturne
Lanturne
Mantine
Quagsire
Poliwrath

(Lots of surf and water absorb make this gym tricky)

Gym 7: Skull Badge (Ghost Gym)
Leader: Igor or Boris
Gengar
Chandelure
Giratina
Spirtomb
Rotom
Jellicent.

With a lot of substitutes available. But this gave me Fire/Water/Electric/no weaknesses and dark/dragon/poison to even out the ghost filled team. [Note: Giratina was often subbed out cause I didn't like legendaries]

Gym 8: The Sandstorm Badge (It's a Sandstorm team. I just used my sandstorm team for this badge. Making this and the ghost gym the only ones at full 100 and ready to actually play)
Leader: Sanderson
Hippowdon
Tyranitar
Gliscor
Flygon
Omastar
Torterra

[Gliscor has subbed out for Magneton cause I didn't level up my Glister.]

The only ones I leveled up to be available for challenge are Skull and Sandstorm.

Why Marshtomp and not Swampert?

(Also I don't want to be that guy but Weavile and Mienshao are not cats)

Probably cause I didn't remember Swampert was the final evolution when I wrote the list.

And Weavile I'll grant you, though I think I checked it and there was no certainty whether it was a cat or not. Mienshao's name practically sounds like 'meow'. It's certainly catlike if not a cat.

Mienshao is based on a Stoat...which is a weasel...its name is likely derived from 'ermine' which are the names for weasels with a white coat in the winter...

It's not a big deal but I'm just thinking why not Persian and Liepard?

Could very easily make a decent weasel themed team though as there's lots of pokemon based on various species of weasels...
for example...
-Typhlosion
-Samurott
-Weavile
-Mienshao
-Linoone
-Skuntank

Cause I didn't need Normal and Dark in the gym for the team balance as much as I needed fighting and Ice.

You are challenged by Gym Leader Daniel!
Mixed Types, 7th Unovan Gym (takes over for Drayden)
Legend Badge, Gives TM25 Thunderbolt and $5000 upon victory.
You can rematch him as much as you like in Victory Road. You get $2500 and a Rare Candy upon daily victory.

Here are the Pokémon:
Amoonguss Lvl. 43
Giga Drain
Toxic
Flash
Solar Beam

Politoed Lvl. 43
Hydro Pump
Rock Smash
Scald
Surf

Rapidash Lvl. 43
Flame Charge
ExtremeSpeed

Stomp
Strength
Lucario M Lvl. 45
Aura Sphere
Metal Claw
Psychic
Bone Rush

Flygon Lvl. 45
Earth Power
Draco Meteor

Flamethrower
Dragon Dance
Pikachu Z Lvl. 47
Thunderbolt
Iron Tail
Quick Attack

Brick Break
Rematch: Starts at Lvl 60-64 and adds 2 per week. Ends at 100!
Decidueye ZR
Spirit Shackle
Leaf Blade
Frenzy Plant

Focus Blast
Greninja ZR
Water Shuriken
Mat Block
Dark Pulse
Hydro Cannon

Emboar ZR
Blast Burn
Flame Charge
Close Combat
Roar

Lucario M
Aura Sphere
Metal Claw
Psychic
Bone Rush
Flygon ZR
Earth Power
Flamethrower
Draco Meteor

Dragon Dance
Pikachu Z(Z+ at Lvl 80+)
Thunderbolt
Volt Tackle X
Iron Tail

Grass Knot

And here is some research papers found in the gym:
M=Mega
M+=Mega (Raises all stars by 2, Pokémon must be at Lvl 80)
Z=Z-Power
ZR=Z-Power (Can be reused or saved for another Pokemon with ZR)
Z+
=Special Z-Power (Pokémon must be at Lvl 80)
X=Move Boost depending on type.
In this case, Volt Tackle being an Electric type move will almost always go first.
