So I got to thinking, and I'm astounded that no one has yet attempted to compare countries/regions/cultures to Super Smash Bros. characters. Debating the relative merits of countries and talking about smash seem to be the two main passions of this forum, so I thought that this thread would make a nice, temporary place to duke it out, away from Social Thread clutter. Mods, if you must merge it, you may, and I'll only inflict mild Chlamydia on you.

Here's my list, with explanations. I'm plenty bias on all of these (i.e. I don't know much below the surface about fox or Japan, so they both reek of the unknown to me). Some of them I didn't really come up with anything good or else just had to go on a feeling. Post your own, and debate away. Simple comparisons devoid of deeper accompanying ones (i.e. Pikachu is the most powerful America is the most powerful Pikachu=America) are frowned upon.

America- Captain "Doug" Falcon. Brash, loud, tacky, manly, unsubtle, popular, and powerful.

Japan- Fox. bewilderingly complex and precise, arrogant (dat taunt), somewhat unusual (fast falling yet light, lasery playstyle) popular among Super Smash Bros. players.

China- Kirby. Frustrating, seemingly unbeatable, frightening, heart-breakingly superior to you in "unfair" ways that nonetheless are exactly the same as the ones you use, applied more ferociously. Acquires your good qualitites like a sponge and uses them against you in idiosyncratic ways.

Britain- Mario. Classy in irrelevant ways having to do with the past (Britain's colonial, imperial history, Mario's Nintendo superstardom).

Australia- Luigi. Interesting superficially, but containing crippling, disgusting weaknesses (high short hop=Adelaide). A less powerful version of Britain/Mario that's nevertheless cool for small, random reasons.

India- Ness. Kind of funny, doesn't seem like much competition, does his own thing (Bollywood=DJC shenanigans).

Africa- Yoshi. Female circumcision/Genital mutilation = the parry. Really weird, different from rest of world/cast. Not powerful, but still threatening/scary/sympathy-inducing.

France- Samus. Just surrenders.

Canada- Link. Weak, but generally considered to be cool. Very polite.

North Korea- Jigglypuff. Like Kirby/China, if Kirby/China had a lot more crazy and a lot less power. Pink (communist), ridiculously easy to kill but kind of maybe has Doug/America by the short hairs and a lot of really scary weapons that could lead to Nukes/Rest.

Spain- Pikachu. part of it wants to do it's own thing in the next game (Pichu/Catalonia) but that's a terrible idea for both of them. Vain and preening- like Aragon from Merchant of Venice.

DK- the United Nations. A big silly monkey.

Haha you can criticize as much as you want, I'm not patriotic at all :).

And I'm not even fully swiss so...

Anyway I just think the idea of this thread is dumb, so is patriotism (not even talking about extreme cases like battlecow).

Donkey Kong, America: big and stupid thinking he's the best in his narrow mind.
Dumbest thread ever in my opinion...
That was some clevar stuff right there. You definitely get everything that's going on in that post. I don't know if I can compete with that level of repartee.

RE blaze- Switzerland's probably more like Mike Tyson from Punch Out. Hasn't been in a fight for so long that no one really cares, and basically just wants to launder money for Hitler.

You obviously don't live in an American university town bro.

Swear to god, I deal with socialists on the daily. It's disgusting. Sometimes, it gets hard to remain pure of thought...

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
Against my better judgement, I'll leave this as it's own thread for now. However, if problems arise, it may have to be closed (lets be honest, a thread like this is very close to crossing the line, and if one person takes it the wrong way...)

Anyways, now that that's out of the way (for now...)

Canada- Link. Weak, but generally considered to be cool. Very polite.
Funny how you say Canada is weak. If it weren't for Canada, we would have probably lost World War II.

If anything, I would say Canada is like Yoshi. We can be powerful, but we prefer to be peaceful. Plus, we love to make fun of ourselves :p

And now I hope that not merging/closing this thread will not backfire on me...

Canada didn't turn any tides in WWII dude. That thing was a 3-stock. Germany never had a chance after it invaded Russia/got war'd on by the US. I mean, you guys fought awesomely and got in on it right away (beat us there) and took a beach on D-day and all that good stuff, but let's be honest, you had, what, a million guys in there throughout the whole war? Very respectable, given your population, but Russia had 29 times as many as that killed, not just fighting.

Thanks for not closing it! Everyone start putting up random thoughts on country/character combinations!

Battlecow you thought my post was stupid? Well that's actually nice because I tried to make it in the mentality of this thread.

Don't bother answering I'll stay out of that thread so you can do your stuff in peace :).
