i love counter, though abuse it and they will punish you right? i like using it in situations where i cant be punished. possible?

im too lazy to make a detailed list right now but the basic idea is

for slow characters (dedede/pt char/bowser/ganon/ike) if they try to C-stick forward smash you you can just about always get a counter off before it hits. so if they are charging it their choices are to get it off earlier and get countered... or wait until its fully charged.. and get countered. it hurts more then your own fully charged (sweetspot) f-smash usually.

it also works for fast characters who move forward when they smash if you time it right. as soon as they relase it you pwn the face. its all about spacing so that they would hit you with the last moments of the attack. (shiek/wolf/peach(over-b)/kirby)

if an attack is either slow or covers a distance you can counter it for sure 100% of the time and the person has no choice once they have started an attack but to get countered.

captain falcon/ganon who tries to B you- stand right in front of them and POW 30% damage for being a noob ganon!

the idea is to WAIT until the attack starts before you counter. so it wont work for everything but it works for a lot.

theres also some nifty tricks you can use counter for.

timed projectiles are fun to abuse to get off your counter. a few examples

samus who loves to spam the bombs- know they go off in X seconds and jump into one/counter. it goes off and you slash the samus who thought she was safe while falling and spamming bombs.

snake who has a proximity mine-this is funny when your about to land on one and your enemy things you dont see it so runs in your direction thinking once you hit it you will be able to be comboed but instead runs right into your counter.

snakes granades- this is kinda weird but works i dont know how useful it is but its funny. his granades have a timer of about 3 seconds so if you catch one and run at him then turn in the opposite direction and counter it slashes at him. (you counter in the directon of the attack and for some reason it attacks the opposite way your facing)

i also like to use it in the air. madness! for example against samus whos down to her B+up to save her i like to float at her and counter. if she air dodges i still keep my other jump and my up+b and if she b-up SWORD TO FACE.

or an ike who is about to use his B-up to grab onto the edge and i dont have time to edge guard. get out of range for the first part of the sword then do a short hop/counter into it and you slash him before he can grab it. then you can follow him down and finish the job

bowser/char fire- jump above it and counter while coming down. they will think theres no way you can avoid it but of course SWORD TO FACE.

so these are just a few ideas. its not perfect and some of them wont work everytime (like the bowsers fire one eventually when he sees you jump he will know what your going to do)

but its a good way to mix up your play style. and plus who doesnt like free damage?

this also works good with ganons-tilt up/anyone who has a down A attack that they cant STOP

like gameandwatch (who hits twice) rolling away and you still might get hit but countering and he gets... a..... SWORD TO THE FACE everytime.

:p

EDIT:4/14- against king dedede his UP+B is fun to counter(try to get under him, it will still work from the stars that come out of him sideways but it wont do as much damage), and if he cancels it he floats down unable to do anything. so while hes coming down counter and he can either get a sword to the face or cancel it which will slow his fall (and stun him) and you should have enough time to slash his face.

oh yeah i almost forgot i was playing against my friend and i found out something that wont work a lot against dedede but it will work at least once or twice haha.

you know how sometimes when he throws out guys he gets the dudes with one eye who shoot a beam in front of them?

i was playing against my friend and swording away the do nothing guys and spike guys dedede was throwing at me but just dodging the eye dudes.

i would keep in the back of my head their general location and stay close to them and when king dedede charged i would jump above the beam, counter fall into it and king dedede would get a sword to the face. lol my friends face was priceless.

ikes a pansy

oh that reminds me, against fox/falco their up+b you can fall into it (take damage from the surrounding fire before it gets off) and counter =D of course it might be easier just to see them starting it and grabbing into the edge to screw em over. but falling into a pile of fire with a counter...now thats just style haha. it doesnt work for wolf though he doesnt damage people pre B-up.

i deal with ike by just being defensive. in the air you can dodge everything he desides to attack with and punish him.

i like air attacking at below angles his down air only covers in a straight line under him

his side Air will cover him too but not until the end of it so its easy to dodge.

his neutral A is a little bit faster but once he realizes its his only defense you can just attack him from the lower sides. then when he goes back to F-air or B-air you can either air dodge it (its so slow lol its not that bad) or once you see him start an attack B-up his sorry butt.

on the ground his smash-up and smash-forward even C-sticked you can counter. his smash-down comes out pretty quickly but you can either keep spacing and poke him or attack him from behind (it attacks first front then behind)

his neutral B get the timing down on it (about four seconds) then you got lots of choices.

im guessing your having problems from the air with him at the edge? maybe? lol if hes abusing it on the ground just wait until he HAS to use it then punish him for being a noob if he waits until its fully charged he also takes 10% damage.

OK in the air coming towards the ike but the noob ike wants to neutral B. few things to remember

B-over slows down your fall. so you can usually use this to outlast it then punish him with a sword to his eye.

if your a pro at timing and your coming at an angle and your like ok ill touch him in about a second. it will go off in no mroe then a second and my counter lasts about a second you can fall into the end of it while countered and he can either release early SWORD TO FACE or wait until it gets off TEN% DAMAGE AND SWORD TO FACE.

you can also come towards the edge... then when he releases (cause of course you cant go anywhere else) go past the edge and up+B his kneecaps off.

most ikes will release right away when your coming to the edge and usually at high charges he will still hit you when you air dodge so i would counter the first time (cause he wont expect it) but then afterwards do one of the other choices.

oh and its also funny to get thrown off the edge and your floating back down and hes about to release it then you use your jump. he goes OH GOSH SKJFNHSIJFN his neutral B goes off cause he needs to get ready for your sword to his face but cant get over the lag of the attack before you... you... SWORD TO THE FACE.

be careful with your neutral B on stages like battlefield when your using it on the edge. remember that once you use it you have to move yourself BACK some before you B+up or you will just go into a bottom pocket and die a horrible embarrasing LOL IM IKE death =(
