There, that's the video. So basically, recently I decided to get into smash competitively and start playing against people that are not level 1 bots. I registered back in 08, but never used it til recently unfortunately for me ;p. So, I've been trying to read up on some fairly basic falcon movesets to use, some ats, yadda yadda, watching youtube videos and whatnot and have come a long way in the past few months, but even I can see that I need more Nairs and tech chasing, so I wanted to get the opinions of some fellow falcon players here and see what parts I should really focus on, or if anyone knows a solid way to practice those. My friend and I are both bad and we know it, that's why this is here. I want to get good enough to compete on a much larger scale. Thanks in advance, you're an amazing community.

edit: added second, much better play video.

Two big things I noticed: don't charge fsmashes for so long (even if they tech into them you'll only want to charge for a short time) and don't always jump out to edgeguard (Falcon's tilts are relatively safe vs. Fox and generally more effective than the knee and especially the stomp).

one thing is i noticed your extremely direct with your approaches. Try dash dancing more. your tech chasing is the most impressive part of your playing id say. Just tray and be more sneaky and mix it up a little

I like it so far. The biggest problem is just overall accuracy and precision, but your ideas are very apparent (VERY) and it makes it cool to see where you're coming from. You go for things and would be able to accomplish them if you were just precise and accurate (know that being accurate is being able to hit something you want and that precision is being able to replicate the end result).

There are many times where you could have punished if you spaced a bit better or timed something differently. Seeing that it happened so often, I'm going to be really excited to see how you play once you fill in the gaps.

You could L-Cancel a bit more, but you know that, and it's not too big of a problem. Seeing the other techniques that you use, I assume that you're trying to L-Cancel anyway. I need to work on that as well. (I have trouble with Falcon's down air mostly =/)

Try to space that Dair about thirty seconds in of the video just out of Fox's Usmash so you can bring it down faster. Or rather, time your second jumps differently. Your friend had some pretty nice little reflexes so I see how it's difficult, but the faster and closer things are, the more pressure there is to make him make a wrong decision.

When you throw a person or do something else and they hit the ground (and does not tech), you either need to hit them while they bounce or hit them after the rolling/standing animation. You would kind of get excited and try it right in the middle in the first video.

Someone else already mentioned this, but dash dancing with Falcon is very helpful. It'll help with your very direct approaches. Just don't be like me and get too excited with it. >.<
It's very helpful for influencing where someone will roll or tech and make it a bit easier to tech chase, which is one of my favorite things to do with Falcon (Even though I'm not good at it >.>).

I'm gonna look at your second video and make changes to this post if I need to. I hope this helps though. Good luck!

Also, if someone sees something wrong with my post, please let me know and I'll fix it.

First Edit: I like your second video a lot more. There was more dash dancing and again, your ability to predict is very nice. It's just that little bit of practice that you need to space everything. You're getting some good reads, you just need to be more accurate when taking action.

When you use the wall jump to recover, you could maybe mix it up a bit by doing aerials to help you stall. I only remember you doing it once, so I don't know if you do that already or not.

Just keep practicing! That's all I can really say.

Very enjoyable to watch, in my opinion. I look forward to see how you improve.

Edit 2: I just realized the lack of Uairs. Maybe incorporate them into your game a little more? Of course, this is dependent on your play style, but I could see you benefiting a lot by using Uair more.

Also, L-Canceling was much better in the second video.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys! :) The fun thing about actually recording yourself is it makes it a lot easier to improve as you can actually listen to feedback and SEE where you are messing up... Yeah, I was honestly surprised by my lack of uairs there as I generally TRY to use them more. I actually did my first uair->knee combo that night but didn't get that match recorded :(. More uairs, better tech chasing and accuracy, stoked to practice next time someone comes over :D Thanks again for the feedback so far!

Also, your tech/roll chasing is pretty darn good already. You just need to connect your attempts.

I don't know if you find this useful, but I tend to use Uairs in SHFFLs right before I hit the ground. It pops out very quickly and catches a lot of people by surprise. Maybe you could use it some time during a match to pull a surprise approach.

I'm happy that you find my feedback useful. I wish you tons of luck. Make sure you keep recording yourself! I'd be happy to watch your videos.

Yeah, saw that in some vids and been trying to implement it, but not quite that great at it yet. Practice, practice, practice.

I saw the 2nd video on ys and a noticed a few things.

You did raptor boost of a platform a couple of times. I dont know if you still have to work on your fingers speed or if you were ment to do that move there, but the chance that it will hit if very low =o
Falcon is a very fast charackter to handle so take your timing practicing doing moves as fast as you can!
Also on platforms since this is a bit different.

I also saw you rolling back almost every time after an air attack. It can get predictable, so try to improvise and make other decisions after missing an attack!
It is good to roll back after a missed air attack, but sometimes you can do another move or outspace your opponent before he hits you. Try to make the good split decision

the good things a saw were that you were really watching your opponent and reacted to the things he did. I can learn from you since I am almost never watching what the other person is doing so keep it up =)
Just combine this with more speed and combos and you will get better and better.
example: at 0:32 the first kill you made. You saw him hanging at the ledge and decided to do a down air very ( very ) fast =o
He was to slow to react and you killed him ^^
anyway thx for sharing , I enjoyed watching it.

Yeah the roll thing I noticed a lot. I've been reading (and seen first hand) just how bad his rolls are. I am going to work on more dash dancing to make up for rolling. Or perhaps just run away and spam a couple shffl'd bairs or something on the run if he's persuing, iono. I'll have to test and practice practice more. Thanks for the comments Jeapie, love watching your vids. :) Maybe we can play some friendlies when I come to the cup this november out in the Netherlands. I'm not sure of the exact location tho.
