Could Smash Bros save Capcom?

As you probably know, Capcom has recently almost gone bankrupt, and only has a few million in the bank. Sounds like a lot right? Not when you're a massive multi-national games company that needs to pump out new games every year to keep afloat. Capcom are now having to rely on DLC and low budget phone games like Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter X All Capcom (Wow, now Capcom wants to challenge itself?).

But having Mega Man in Super Smash Bros 4 could perhaps save Capcom from going bankrupt. I expect Capcom will get a hefty shared amount of dosh if Smash Bros 4 becomes a success, what with their main mascot being one of the main characters.

I do love Capcom and all their colourful franchises and characters, but they can only blame themselves for their current predicament. Until they find the budget to make Street Fighter V or Mega Man 11, one awesome company could be lost forever.

Capcom's going bankrupt? This is news to me and I've never heard of those other games. What's your source?

Capcom can save themselves if they'd actually release a good Mega Man game. Like supposedly, that canceled game.

I don't think Mega Man's inclusion to ssb4 is going to 'save' them.

Mega Man alone can't save their bank, and neither can a cameo appearance of Mega Man in a Nintendo game. Nope, Smash Bros won't put Capcom in a much better spot, they need to do something themselves to get out of this.

It will help them, just not enough to really save them.

Capcom's pretty screwed right now.

That's Monster Hunter's job.
Bring it to the west and they should see more cash coming in.

There is a difference between a studio not having enough resources for a specific game because they have already alotted a ton of resources to other projects (Dead Rising 3, Deep Down, Etc) and them being in danger of bankruptcy. If Capcom is about to go bankrupt,t hen Sony is DOA, if you look at thier financials.

As long as Nintendo is there to pick up the pieces (and keeps their franchises alive) I couldn't care less if they go bankrupt. As long as it's AFTER smash 4. We don't want Mega Man out because Sony buys Capcom.

This could potentially serve a role in Capcom getting back on their feet, but I for one, don't think it will be enough. Things look pretty bleak for Capcom, so they may end up selling their franchises. I feel Mega Man would do fine under Nintendo's ownership, so I'd hope Nintendo buys Mega Man if Capcom does go bankrupt, at least Mega Man if not any of their other franchises.

Ummm obviously someone is an idiot and does not do their research. Also, because its on a youtube video doesn't mean its a legit source...Especially since he's cursing every 5 seconds in the video....

How about you read that and tell me Capcom is going bankrupt....
The actual article is in the description of the video:

http://gaminrealm.com/2013/10/20/capcom-cant-make-next-gen-fighter/

So it is legitimate. Sort of.

Nintendo buying Capcom itself would also work... think about it. Instead of just buying Mega Man and Street Fighter, take it all in. Capcom's got a rich history, and having Nintendo OWN Capcom would mean we'd still see everything we like about Capcom, but Nintendo's there to help them. It'd be like how close Nintendo and Rare were until, y'know...

But seriously, what's the point of just buying one IP? the Capcom VS. series wouldn't be the same without Street Fighter, or Mega Man, or Darkstalkers, or Ghost N' Goblins. You know that in Nintendo's hands, we'd see PLENTY of Mega Man, as well as everything else we want. It'd also mean there's an actual reason for Nintendo to make licensed games :troll:.

I doubt it. Mega Man in SSB4 would probably boost sales for Capcom, but not by a whole lot.

I'm not entirely sure if I want them to go bankrupt or not… to be fair, Capcom did this to themselves.

Read the description.

This guy always has sources in there.

That and it was on the creator of Street Fighter's twitter, where he said THEY CANNOT PORT STREET FIGHTER 4 TO A NEW CONSOLE?!?

SOMETHING THAT TAKES VERY LITTLE MONEY TO DO?

Don't call me an idiot. Never call me an idiot.

I don't think it will do Capcom much good. It will help a little, but not enough to change anything.

Especially considering they haven't even MADE a Mega Man game in a while.

If anything, it might do the opposite: Hype people up for Mighty No. 9. Mega Man's competitor/successor.

I'm actually almost hoping they do go bankrupt so that Nintendo can buy them out.
Yeah because Nintendo would totally buy out Capcom.

People wishing for a company to go bankrupt so another company can buy it it's pretty depressing. It's not like "Well it's dead in the water, at this point I hope out of the many possibilities, the one in which Nintendo buys it will happen", no, it's actually "I hope this company fails and people lose jobs so I can have Capcom games on my Nintendo because I don't like the other systems.". How old are you?

Also, thinking that the appearance of Megaman in Sm4sh could save a multi-million company going bankrupt is absolutely ridiculous, one of the most stupid things I've read on this board.

Megaman's franchise will soon be bought out by Nintendo, and Nintendo will continue to do the same until it owns all the most popular video game mascots so Nintendo will never die out. Mwahahahahahahaha..ha.ha....ha...... I mean.... I hope that this will be an incentive to capcom to get off their butt and take a look at their roots to see where they went wrong and how to make awesome games again.

Personally, I don't really care for Capcom games in general, except for a few. Legendary wings (for the NES), Megaman (of course), Powerstone1+2 (for the sega dreamcast), Ghosts+goblins series, Strider series, Resident Evil series.

While I don't care much for the Street Fighter series (I like the characters and gameplay styles in general, but I hate seeing combos where people will lose more than half their life, quit wasting my time), I know it effected the fighting game genre a lot. I know a lot of people loved Phoenix Wright at one point as well.

I don't think smash will save Megaman. I just hope it'll be a wakeup call to Capcom. If Capcom does fail, I hope Nintendo takes some of the more memorable characters from Capcom since some capcom games did have a pretty large effect on the gaming industry.

I don't think anyone is saying that. It's more like as tough love deal. "Capcom, my man, I feel for your situation. But you did this to yourself. You need to get your act together and fly right before it's too late." And honestly, people are hoping that if that day comes, Megaman will end up in a good home, like Nintendo. If it ends up in the hands of someone else who can do the series justice like Sega, Konami, Namco, or even back to Keiji Inafune, then fans will be happy.

Also, thinking that the appearance of Megaman in Sm4sh could save a multi-million company going bankrupt is absolutely ridiculous, one of the most stupid things I've read on this board.
It may boost Mega Man's career, though.

I'm just saying that, if Capcom goes bankrupt and Nintendo buys it (although Sony would definitely want to outbid them), I'll be happy. Mainly because of Pheonix Wright, but also because of Megaman.

It would be pretty hilarious if all the popular stuff from Capcom went exclusive to Nintendo. I've seen the hate for Platinum just from a niche game like Bayonetta going to Nintendo, so I think Nintendo haters would probably die if Street Fighter and Megaman went to Nintendo only.

Smash 4 could help revitalize the series, the way Brawl did for Kid Icarus though.

seeing as Capcom have recently started preparation on a new next gen big budget AAA fighter, i highly doubt they are close to bankrupt haemorrhaging money, yes, but they wouldn't be close to bankruptcy and have a big budget game just starting preparation.

I don't want Capcom to go bankrupt but at the same time I don't want them to own the IP to the Mega Man series either. Like what some people said "Capcom did it to them selves" they tried to make us go bankrupt and now their supposedly going bankrupt. It's just karma.

There is no doubt Capcom is financially struggling right now, but let's clear something up real quick: Ono's comment about not having the "resources" for a next generation fighting game should not automatically be assumed to mean financial resources. Capcom might just as easily have their staff working on other projects right now. Nor should it be assumed they are close to bankruptcy as Capcom staff and other reliable journalists have gone on record saying they still are making quite a bit of money, albeit not enough so as to cause a great deal of concern.

Now to the main topic. Super Smash Bros is not going to save Capcom. Their role is so small in the game that to honestly believe that a cameo appearance from an exhausted franchise will generate the millions they need in revenue to continue their operations is wildly off the mark. The problems Capcom faces are not going to be solved magically by making another Megaman game. While it would be a nice gesture for the fans, the truth of the matter is the Megaman series does not -- and never truly has -- generated sells like other series in Capcom's library. No recent Megaman game is only a microcosm of a larger problem Capcom has been handling for a long time now with their library of games.

Capcom just needs to get their heads out their asses and fire all upper management and sales projection people, because theyre all ****ing tools and all-around terrible gaming business-people. DMC4 was the best-selling gane of the whole series by about triple what each past individual title sold and they marked it as a failure cuz it didnt meet "sales expectations". ****ing pretentious jackasses. Plus the handling of the Resi series, as well as Megaman. Theyre just all over the ****ing place n itll take more than Megaman to fix it.

I highly doubt Nintendo would absorb Capcom. What would happen to the Versus series? Nintendo VS Capcom? Can't see it happening. Plus Capcom are very invested in making games for other systems, but I just thought that maybe a big selling franchise like Smash Bros could help Capcom pick up the slack and make some good games and not rely on DLC and over reliance on past franchises.

I can actually see Nintendo vs Capcom being really nice, but if you mean in terms of likelihood and either company's willingness, then yeah, I don't see it either.
