Could Brawl possibly cause an increase in competitive play?

I was thinking, and most likely Brawl will feature many of the advanced techniques that we know and love, plus more of course. So since several of the techniques are already known, could it be possible that the many people that are going to come across this board once they get their hands on SSBB will discover the many advanced techs instead of just how to unlock a certain stage, or get such and such character?

Then of course, there is the online play. Newbies and advanced players are bound to play each other online, and if there is some form of communication the andvanced player could point the scrub to some places that describe the techs and so on.

Of course, this could also mean that there might just be a whole lot of false reports on cheating and the like... but I prefer being optimistic.

Its logical that there would be more competitive play due to the online play. Just look at Halo 2 and the like. It enables people to play with others at any time.

.....of course.

It's online, it's on a console that (looks like) it's going to be more popular then the previous one, and it's already garnished the attention of quite a few competitive players.

Thus, of course it'll attract more. Unless it has no ability to played at a higher level, then it's obviously going to.

yeah, have you ever seen how it affected Mario Kart? Before MKDS, the vast majority of Mario Kart players didn't even know what snaking was, but once MKDS was released and the few who knew how to snake dominated, players were awed and were eager to learn this amazing technique.

I believe Brawl will go through a similar change. I won't be the newbie being exposed to a new competitive game this time though. :D

well...sakurai or maybe it was some other asian guy said that the gameplay was gonna be a bit slower.

and there is this thread that showed pikachu edgeguarding w/o needing to wavedash.

so i think that brawl is going to be more noob friendly like wow and less competitive than melee.

I think it will stay about the same. When the game first comes out there will be an initial rush, but it will die out over the course of a year. Online also won't help since playing fighers online are far to prone to lag, and because you'll only be able to play with those who's wii-codes you have. This community's already growing pretty fast, I think that will follow through with Brawl, but I don't think Brawl will speed it up much more in the long run, just a little.

Even if it is slightly slower there will undoubtedly be a competitive scene. Also wavedashing isn't the only move in a good player's repertoire(sp?). SHFFLing is a far more important aspect then WD and unless they assign a button to short hopping there will still be a large amount of skill necessary to win. Not to mention with so many people playing online and experimenting with the game we're bound to find something else to exploit, like Wavedashing 2.0 ;D.

i think brawl will be a bigger game simply because of the online play.

it will by far increase competitive play simply because of online play.

think about how much ppl would love halo if it wasnt possible to play ppl across the world. it'll be just like golden eye for 64(although it was a great game but without a good multiplayer the game would suck like all the other 007 games that were made after goldeneye!!!

Yeah it'll prob result in more competitive scene...

1) Wii seems to be waaay more popular than Gamecube. Not only is it getting gamers to buy it, even parents are getting it. Looks like Wii's reaching out to all age groups. It'll definately have more sales than GC.

2) Online = MOAR COMPETITIVE! I mean, come on now. If both players has good connection and the online mode isn't made out of suck. Then there'll be very VERY small lag, where you won't even notice it. With that said, players will find out about Advanced Tech's without having to research over the internet. Also, you can play other human players at any time. So you can improve at any time instead of having to wait til a "Smash Night" or the sort.

I forgot my other points, but who cares!
