Control Schemes and Tournament Regulations

Brawl has customizable controls. Given that the community currently does not allow modded controllers (auto-short hop, wavedash, etc.) in tournaments, do you think there will be a limit to how (or how much) players can customize their control schemes during tournament play? Will the community have to change tournament regulations or ban customized controls from tournament play?

Customized controls may allow for a lot of moves to be programmed to the C-stick/D-pad. (B-moves, Tilts, or more.) This will have a strong effect for characters, like Samus, who have many moves that are frame specific. For example the Hylian Lowrider XD (see here: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=122758. Video Example here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyfEYKxcVFI ) This has a one frame leeway in execution. Being able to customize the Smash Missile to the C-stick would make this technique much easier, and possibly commonplace. (It would probably help if you held the controller with the CLAW).
Or what if you could customize X to Smash left on one frame then Smash right on the next frame? Then not only could you pull off a SWD (if it's in brawl) in every attempt, but you could easily do the Rocket Dash (See here: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=63749)
every time. (Which would be awesome!)

But considering that we don't have the game yet and do not yet know to what extent we will be able to actually customize the control scheme, this question may be moot.

But still, do you think there will be Tournament Standard Control Schemes? Or will players be able to customize their Control Schemes, even though Modding the controls is strictly forbidden in current tournament play?

eh, I don't think they'll ship the game letting the player able to bind a button to simultaneously fire a missle, laser and do a smash attack or anything ridiculously broken

Um, if you can change the controls in-game, I don't see how you could ban it. I mean, as long as you're using normal controllers (whichever one you choose--just no tricky Turbo controllers or anything), you're playing the game the way it's meant to be played.

I'm sure there's no way you could set up the buttons in Brawl to automate certain moves. I mean, all it's doing is mapping inputs to different keys.

I don't think there would be regulations on control schemes. Which ever control scheme works best, all tournament players would probably all just use that and it will become the standard, but people can still go noob controller (wiimote sideways) and kick a*s!

Ok let's get this straight. You can't set a move that is preformed by pressing a combination of buttons, to just one button. You can't set smash missile to C Stick because it's a combination move, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER MOVE. You won't have an auto-short hop button. Just slide your finger off the jump button, easy enough. Wavedashing is NOT in Brawl. You couldn't have an AUTO WAVEDASH button either considering it's a combo of Three moves. Jump, Dodge, and Control Stick.

Wow.

i think when Sakurai mentioned customized button scheme...i don't think he meant inputting a macros combination onto one button.... >_>

I have NO idea what made you fathom that...

It's like this: don't like X/Y being your jump button? No problem, it's now on the Z button.

It's NOT like this: L trigger will now be "Forward + B + Dodge + DownSmash" instead of Shield

You can only assign the buttons around, like you could in Street Fighter (LP, MP, HP, LK, MK, HK, PPP, KKK)...

...get it?????????? Hope so.

I don't see any reason for tournament-standard control schemes. It's not like someone will have access to a control scheme someone else doesn't, everyone will have the same opportunity to customize their controls equally. Who knows, if customizing your controls can be THAT benificial, maybe it'll add another layer to the game to figure out the best controller setup. XD
