Well... I was going over the Dojo, when I saw the Create your controller scheme option, and I thought "Hmm... what could I possibly change to make things easier".

And after a few minutes of thinking I though of:

Using the [L] Button for jumping.

Here's a summary of the advantages.

- Specializes the Left hand in movement only.

- Allows Right Hand fingers to stay in the same place always
( A button and R button )

- Aerials come out faster from the moment you leave the ground
( Useful for all characters, An applied example could be Marth double F-air in one SH )

- Possibility of Short Hops being easier
( I find triggers easier and faster to release )

This and a couple of other reasons is why I think [L] Jumping could prove quite useful.

Oh also, I googled "Lumping" and came up with this:

- To group indiscriminately ( grouping buttons? )
- To move noisily and clumsily ( Crazy Hops hehe )

Since the word fits so nice... I'm calling this Lumping (you are in no way obligated to call it that, its just funny and easier than "L Jumping")

Tell me what you guys think:

Heh. I made a thread about using a trigger button for jump a while ago. It seems like the best idea for control schemes so far.

It wouldn't really need a different name...

I don't know about this one, jumping with those shoulder would seem like hell. This is a very unique idea though that no game has featured, but it just doesn't seem like it would be very comfortable.

You would indeed have to practice with this, especially to get used to it. Doesn't seem like a good idea though.

I'm sure you'd get used to it after a while. And after that you'll be better suited to play the game than other players. It's a good idea.

Yeah you seem to get the idea perfectly.

Its just a matter of practicing it a bit, and it should become second nature (just like we learned to wavedash and SHFFL naturally)

I guess this would be ultimately up to the individual player. I can see how it would be helpful though. Maybe awkward at first but w/ practice it might be very efficient.

I was thinking about that in melee today. Its not the easiest to short hop with samus, so I figured making it the L/R button would be a nice setup.

With the new speed of brawl how will I ever hit the buttons fast enough? Thanks to this now I can!

If you can L-jump by tapping the shoulder instead of clicking it all the way in, it would be great!

Is that possible?

I could see it with the classic controller, but on a GC controller it might be a bit much, since it takes so much more effort to push the button down all the way. You'd have to be able to short hop too, and personally I wouldn't trust my index finger to release such an unwieldy button so quickly...

Yeah, I'm really wondering about that too. Tapping the shoulder button a tiny bit to jump would be ideal. But then, what would short hops be determined by? Duration of the tap, or rate of depression? They might have special code for L/R jumping.

I was also thinking along these lines, except I was thinking of using the Z trigger to shield rather than L/R, simply because that way you can get your shield up instantly rather than having to click it all the way in.

I'd only use this if you could jump just by tapping the trigger rather than depressing it fully, though.

I think I'm too used to x and y... and I'm used to using L for teching...

but by all means, go for it! It's awesome that people will be able to have unique control styles.

I think I heard somewhere that the shoulder buttons aren't analog anymore, but I can't confirm it. If you can do this, it definitely seems worthwhile.
