Confused as to how Scores work in rankings?

Okay, so I've just gotten into the competitive smash scene and attended my first tournament (WHICH WAS CRAZY AWESOME!!!) Then recently I saw the rankings for my tournaments season circuit, kinda like the global rankings. The thing that confuses me is the score. Obviously highest score means highest placement, but I don't exactly know how the score is made. Like, is it according to sets won/lost, certain amount of points for winning/losing? I'm a bit confused and I just want to know for when I participate in the next season! Thanks!

That's Power Rankings. There's a standard algorithm for calculating how much one gets. It's proportional to how many people are in the tournament. Likewise, your ranking depends on how both your win-loss score and when you're sent to losers. Two people can have a 3-2 score, but the one that was sent to losers sooner will have the lower ranking.
