configurations

i used search and couldnt find any help so i made this thread, was wondering how i set/save a controller configuration i made. I know where to find it in options and i save it and everything but when i get into a game nothing has changed. If someone could inform me on how to set or save it so the controls work in game i would appreciate it, thanks.
