Recently I have been talking with JV, from MLG, and we both agreed on the fact that the competitive side of Smash64 has bitten the dust. BUT we don’t want that, so we are going to try and revive the lost wonders of Smash64!

The competitive events section will contain official (or at least as official as you can get for Smash64) ladders, tourneys, and some other specific events (Hopefully JaimeHR, or someone else if he gives permission, will host his “The series” again ^_^)

And for people hosting tourneys, the competitive sub forum will provide an area that won’t push the threads away from sight.

On a side note, we will be trying to connect the EGX server and SWF together in hopes of getting some of the casual players interested in the competitive side :)

ALSO if anyone has any ideas on how to get the smash64 competitive scene out to the public, that would be great. I believe many Brawl players would be interested in playing smash64 online if they only knew it existed :o

Well, very soon the new Sub-Forum is going to be open, and I would like to notify Smashers that all threads concerning, Tourneys, Looking for matching, and anything else thats generally related to the competitive side of Smash64, should be posted there!

And as a side note, all currently active (within the first two pages) tourneys and match requests will be moved to the new sub-forum.

I'm sure Superboomdan will be pretty happy with this. I'll definitely take this oppurtunity to get competitive in 64 as well. =D

I have an idea on how to get some Brawl players interested. The general consensus on 64 is that it's pretty much the most "balanced" game out of the three. Whether it's true or not, that's what a lot of the newer Brawl players believe. This alone would stem a lot of interest in itself since Brawl players aren't afraid of it like they are with Melee, and a lot of them actually believe it has more in common with Brawl than Melee does.

Also, obviously there are complains about random wifi problems etc. Like you said, a lot of the Brawl players don't realize that you can play smash64 online, or even if smash64 has a competitive scene. Spreading the information that smash64 provides near lag-less game play, and will definitely suffice their smash urges. They'll get a taste of combos and who knows, they might spread out and play the other games more often other than just Brawl.

as a great man once said...YES!

This is exactly how I HOPE things will come to be, now getting into action might be harder.

How exactly do we get the word to the Brawl players. We cant go into their forums and say "Hey! come see smash64 its old but its fun!" I think that would just get us in trouble :p

And as for balance, it probably IS the most balanced OF THE THREE... don't mistake that for me saying it is balanced though xP

I'm already trying to stem interest in 64. For example, when people say Brawl's WiFI is good it just depends on connection, I mention Smash64, and take that as an opportunity to bash Barwl.

64 isn't balanced, but it's the most balanced of the 3 yessir.

I agree with Vic.

Thanks you guys!

Well, we could start with a social group, and we can put a link into our signature. We can try our best to get the word out. Like, we can post in our respective regional sub-forums etc.

The only way we can get this to have any real interest is if we get a Smod to announce it or something. A lot of those Brawl players don't even realize there are other forums other that GBD so if we were somehow allowed to have a temp sticky or an announcement, we could gain a good amount of interest that way.

I put to join the group. Now I must wait to be accepted. XD I thought I might as well do it now.

Usually, it's because people think the requirements for SSB64 are higher than they really are. Wired internet though I know now is a must. =/

I think that most Brawlers just don't know that this game is competitive. To a lot of people, it's just some game they played at a friend's house a lot as kids, and not something that people take seriously.

It seems to me that in particular a lot of serious Melee people really look down on 64, and take the opportunity to make fun of how primitive it is when they can, which then influences the younger Brawlers and others. People like this see the 64ers of our local smash group playing, and they comment on things like "wow, I didn't know you could downsmash/shield/roll/tilt/etc in this game."

We just need to get the word out that this is a competitive game. More competitive than Brawl, but not so competitive that it intimidates new players like Melee does for lots of Brawlers.

It will also help when the Wii VC finally gets 64. :ohwell:

I don't know a lot of Brawlers, but most melee players I know don't play this for several reasons:
1) they don't know the game can be played online
2) they only want to play it with a N64 controller, which costs some effort
3) they think it will lag, which is indeed the case but only if you have wireless internet or a bad connection or play with someone far away
4) there are too few people who still play this game
5) melee is good enough anyway

If this whole project is succesful, reason number 5 will be the only reason left for melee players to not play this game, which is a valid reason as melee is just the best smash game IMO, with smash64 a very close second, but this game has good online capability.

I hope when VC puts out smash64, people will come here and be like "Oh wow..smash64?? Got combos??? WTH does Brawl have again? Tripping and auto sweet spot...hmm and MK..."

If Brawlers do come here...dont tell them about Kirby xP
