In case you haven't heard, some folks over at /r/smashbros are offering decent cash to any competitive player willing to assist in the drafting of a clear, concise community letter outlining the specific mechanics we'd like to see in the game. Most importantly, this needs to be very clear and precisely describe what we want, in order to avoid an SC2-type misunderstanding.

There are plenty of folks willing to write the letter, but none of them know enough about all the different techniques, stats, and mechanical oddities that made Melee so great. Thus, if anyone would like to make some quick and easy money while supporting the community and strengthening our relationship with Nintendo, comment here.

Is this about SSB4 not being exactly like Melee in mechanics? If so, SSB4 does not have to be exactly like Melee.

If it is, Melee would be forgotten in the dust.

As far as I can tell, no. It sounds to me like they're more interested in ensuring that SM4SH doesn't lack certain mechanics that would open up a wider range of gameplay. Things like directional dodge, or greater DI.

The organizers are making it very clear that they don't want to sound demanding, and simply want to give the developers some helpful pointers rather than some sort of Melee 2.0 recipe.

We haven't even seen a final build of the game and you already want it to be another Melee clone. Brawl was already modded to basically be a Melee clone WITH the communities ADDED whatever. If you love Melee so much go play Melee. It isn't going anywhere. Just because it doesn't play like Melee doesn't mean it can't be competitive. You can make anything competitive. ****ing Melee fagboys.

A community letter sounds like a bad idea, and they already received a lot of feedback from people who played the game. I think itd turn out especially poorly to have input from people who havent played or dont understand the game very well.

The game doesn't have to be a copy of Melee. As long as there is no tripping and is not as floaty as Brawl, it will be fine.

This is basically spam, and it isn't really something that everyone on this website is agreeing with, as we can see by the responses you're currently getting.

I'm going to lock this thread.
