Something I thought up overnight, and I didn't see any threads similar to this. What if some stages in the prievous Smash games that are similar to another stage from that Smash's predecessor were combined instead of being brought back?

Like Sector Z from Smash 64 retaining the size of the Great Fox, while still having active blasters and attacking Arwings and Wolfens like in Melee? The backround could also change depending on the music.

Another example would be the Mushroom Kingdom stages from Melee being combined with Mushroomy Kingdom from Brawl. You'd scroll through a realistic looking level from Super Mario Bros. 2, and would still have the features from Melee's Mushroom Kingdom II, like the moving logs, and the enemies like Birdo. (They're a seperate Birdo from the one in the Mario spin-offs, this isn't anti Birdo support) the stage type would depend on the music still.

Obviously this wouldn't work with every similar stage; the Congo Jungle from Smash 64 doesn't have much to offer for Jungle Japes from Melee. And I'm not suggesting combing the prievous Final Destinations either. (they're all practically the same but with differing designs and backrounds)

Thoughts?

What if you combine all of the stages from all of the series? :(

The universe implodes and we all go with a big crunch. Then the chaos in that one stage makes a big bang and we are all back.

Man, this thread has some creative potential and not enough people are taking advantage.

It would be awesome to see the F-Zero racers on the Mario track, or the Mario racers on the F-Zero track. The Mario track would be crazy hectic as the F-Zero racers would fly around the stage like they are on super crack, and the F-Zero track offers a lot of fun by giving players unstable, narrow vehicles to jump on while the racers snatch up items and use them on each other.

I kind of meant for stages that are involved with the same series as one and other, but that does sound like a great feature that could be used in the Stage Builder. It would probably take a lot of programming to include such features though. (but that is one thing many fans are hoping for, more options for stage builder, improved ones at that)

These could also work as special bonus stages, or crossover stages. These would work well under their own category page on the stage selection. I'd say they would require very special conditions to unlock. (but not anything like the requirements to unlock Mewtwo in Melee, having to play VS matches for hours on end)

I am leaning towards the latter. If you included these stage elements in Stage Builder, they would have to be modular, which would require them to work very loosely and probably in much less interesting ways. They really just need to include a stripped down version of the software they used to produce the stages on disk or as a separate package. They could even bundle it with concept pieces and uncompleted stages from development. I would buy it.

Great Fox invades Pop Star.
It's not quite as dissonant, but you could have Star Fox dogfighting Space Pirates around the exterior of the Frigate Orpheon while players fight on the loading dock.

It's not the worst idea; I for one got a real kick out of seeing the Great Fox battle the Halberd in SSE (though I was disappointed that the Great Fox lost so comprehensively.) Definitely the best thing about SSE was the collaborations, especially the stranger pairings like Diddy & Fox, Trainer & Lucas, and the Two Captains.

I can't really think of anything to add to the original point of this discussion, except that I think there are a few stages that ought to be completely struck from living memory. Of course given Nintendo's past stage inclusion history, I'd bet my house that we'll get an unchanged New Pork City in SSB for Wii U.

I'd rather have some 64 stages come back than that!

I still can't believe that Brawl made little or no references to Smash 64. All we got is the Bumper! Where's my 64 stages and music?!

I always thought it would be cool for stages from past games to combine, and here's what I got so far:

The Great Fox:

It starts out in Sector Z, similar to SSB64. Same music (remixed/ remastered) and the same background. Arwings still come down and do their business, for about as long as the castle part of Castle Siege, give or take a half a minute. Suddenly, the Great Fox goes into hyperspeed mode and the force pushes opponents back. Dashing allows you to move around normally, but standing still can force you to be pushed off the stage. The Great Fox slows down as it descends into Corneria, with the Arwings still shooting. Acts like it did in Melee and Brawl, same music (remastered or remixed) until hyperspeed kicks in again. This time, the ship points upwards as you and the other opponents scramble to the top and it turns, facing the screen. This turns into Venom, and completely changes the gameplay, and continues on, same music, same obstacles. After the allotted time, the ship from Lylat Cruise appears above the Great Fox as it zooms out and a group of Wolfens shoot down the Great Fox, forcing you to board the cruiser. This continues for the allotted time with all of the obstacles of the Lylat Cruise, when the Great Fox is seen again returning to Sector Z. You follow behind as the Lylat Cruiser zips away. And the cycle continues. It's basically a Rainbow Cruise/ Castle Siege mixture.

Sounds very chaotic, but fun! A combination of all those stages is unlikely, but I like the idea.

I'm hoping at least a few past stages are fused into new ones for Smash 4.

That Sonic stage with Go-Karts from Mario just in the backround. Sometimes they actually show up and drive through the actual playing field. If you break the ground before they drive over it, the mario character in the cloud (forgot the name) fishes them out and they race again.
