I was listening to the latest music on the Dojo, not thinking much of it (as usual), and suddenly it occurred to me that many of these musicians who are creating these cheesy little tracks that could have pre-dated the Super Nintendo are among the most talented and experienced people in the whole business (and not to mention, but numerous and well-staffed as well). And they're doing so on one of the much-anticipated games in recent history.

It really struck me as something I've never seen before, at least in a video game.

Dangerously cheesy.
lmao, it usually takes at least 3 pages of discussion before someone posts a graphic that clever.

This game is going to have hundreds of songs. You can already tell by all the random obscure songs they've chosen already.

But yeah, I guess it is an art style choice. While I loved the orchastral approach to Super Mario Galaxy, I don't think that MIDI's are completely obsolete, and can be used as an art style choice. I am of course hoping for a mix of these styles in Brawl though.

I have always liked the music from the Blockhead series on Newgrounds. In regards to the second one, the Time Squad theme, the creator said on his FAQS, "I didn't mind using MIDI for Time Squad because it helped add to the '80s flavor."

Using MIDI's to this date isn't new for Nintendo though.

The reference isn't all that obscure. It's the lamest animated comedy show on television: Family Guy.

Chester Cheetah confirmed?

He did have 2 of his own games on the SNES. But back to the music. Yes they are going to have way more songs than Melee ever did. Plus on stage builder update they confirmed one of the best DKC2 songs. Bramble Scramble aka Stickerbrush Symphony!

You do know that these are only samples and that the full version in-game will be much longer and better, right?
