I know that there is only enough room for about 1 more 3rd party character. I was thinking how 3rd party characters not yet released on a Nintendo console could be in. My example is Okami. It will be released on the Wii on the first quarter of 2008. Do you think that it would be possible to do something like that for Brawl, or would we have to wait for the next installment of the Smash series?

I havn't a clue who that is......but I don't think that would be possible :(.

I think 5 third party characters would be a fair number.

1.Bomberman
2.Sonic
3.Megaman
4.Snake
5.Geno

Didnt sakurai say that at most 3 3rd party characters would be included, if at all?

We have snake, sonic, and the next one is going to be most likely megaman.

no. he was estimating 2-3 more 3rd parties. He even said "maybe?" at the end. so no, its not a definite number. at all. we could have 10 3rd parties even. although 5 is the most reasonable number.

I don't see why 5 is such a bad number, It would be filled with very deserving 3rd party characters. Not the likes of Spyro or crash bandicoot but characters that have a long history with Nintendo (Sonic, megaman and Bomberman)

I agree that five is probably a fair number, but keep in mind that the base of Smash is a fight between Nintendo characters. I don't expect any minor or less known third party characters to get in.

In my opinion, Snake only got in because Sakurai was begged, and that is what opened the door for other potential third party characters. If Sonic were the one to open the door and Sakurai had not been begged to put Snake in, it probably would not have happened due to the lack of Nintendo in him (like, one game on NES and the rest has been on PS?)

But in the end, I do not expect to see more than 4-5 third party characters at most, and that is being lenient. Those third party characters that do get in will be like Mega Man (long history on Nintendo consoles) and Sonic (long rivalry with Nintendo, as well as appearances on Nintendo consoles recently). Nothing like "popular right now, but has only appeared in one game.... and is third party"

The answer to that is simple: We don't really know

It's possible....but the character would have to be pretty special for sakurai to get it from a game that comes out after brawl. and it doesn't help that it's 3rd party either

To your question, Lucas was wanted for melee but because MOTHER3 got pushed back in japan, he couldnt make the cut. If Okami is completed in time enough for him to still make the final character roster, (early january atleast) then he has maybe a slim chance of getting in.

I realy doubt it, it works for japanese only games, but not third parties I dont think...

Okami is a SHE

On Topic: I'm not sure about other characters, but Okami's originality and gameplay is quite special. Anyone who has played through the game must agree with me. As for others like Megaman, he has a much larger fan base already under him, so he has a much stronger % of being in than a character not yet released on a Nintendo system.

Megaman has 20 years behind him, what does Okami have? Nothing against the game personally, just saying.

sorry, the edit button wouldn't work.

I would like to add that Okami has the potential to come out before Brawl.

The thing is, there may not be a fourth installment.
How... how could you even say that... I thought we had something special, but apparently I was wrong. *turns back on you* Just go home! LEAVE! ;)

Just kidding, and I don't think they'll use characters that are yet to be given a major game.

I played Okami on the PS2 and I swear, I was absolutely absorbed. It's a fantastic adventure, chock full of engaging sidequests, innovative and gorgeous graphics, and an excellent control system. However, this all means nothing. It will assuredly not appear in Smash Bros., guranteed. Okami is a claimed property, origonally owned by Clover Studios (a small, yet very talented branch of Capcom) until it was axed, and was snatched up by a secondary propriotor. This essentially makes it practically a 4th party character.

Even more so, Okami has absolutely no history with Nintendo at this point, despite the port appearing in 2008, as it still doesn't exist yet. Not only that, but it has no real roots in the Gaming realm. Look at the roster of characters and you'll notice that almost all of them found their beginnings in the 90's. As such, it's hard to believe that a character born in 2006/2007 has much of a chance.

Don't get me wrong, Ameterasu (Okami) would make a choice applicant in Brawl, but I'd like to see a few more sequels and a bit more fan-love before I'm going to allow it.

EDIT: For the record, the character's name is actually Ameterasu (sometimes called Ammy). Okami is the title of the game. The mistake you're presently making is akin to referring to Samus by the name Metroid.
