I apologize in advance if this is not in the right section.
I have a major problem with, probably the one and only, CSP guide in YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLeVyjb7AFo&feature=player_profilepage
I've followed the instructions perfectly until the 7:03 part of the video where he explains how to smooth the portrait via Refining the edges with an Alpha channel. I get my Alpha channel with the "small ghostly white border" around the CSP. HOWEVER, this does nothing to the actual picture. I made sure of this by adding a whole bunch of crap and making a huge mess out of the Alpha Channel and still the picture was not affected.
The way I''ve been smoothing my CSPs is with a Layer Mask but that always leaves some Magenta outline traces that I have to manually delete, and upon doing that I'm left with jagged edges again...
Can somebody explain what the purpose of the Alpha Channel work in that video is please? The author says nothing about its effects on the picture.
PS: I use Photoshop CS3 and YES, I did make this thread in the Kitty boards a few weeks ago but it seems the forums are down and I only got irrelevant answers.
