Character Rivalry Predictions

Character rivalries have been showing up a lot in fighters recently. While I don't think that it's guaranteed that character rivalries will show up in smash 4, I think it would be interesting if they did.

Basically, just post what characters you think will or should be positioned as rivals to each other in Smash for, and the reason you think they will be rivals. I'll start with a few:

Ness and Mewtwo.
Reason: Both are psychics, and Mewtwo bears a strong resemblance to how Giygas looked in the original Mother.

Megaman and ROB.
Reason: Both are robots. Megaman could consider ROB a Robot Master of sorts.

Mario and Sonic.
Reason: Do I even need to explain?

it could work in some cases but others may feel forced. but it could work. a few other examples

Peach vs Zelda
reason: Princess vs Princess

Captain Falcon vs Samus
Reason: Both bounty hunters

Luigi vs Diddy
Reason: Sidekicks

Donkey Kong vs Bowser
Reason: Princess kidnappers :D

some are easier than others

K.Rool has minions so do bowser and there both big green things.

They maybe pushing there ego to show each other ''im more in charge my army is bigger and stronger''

Hmm Dededed and Wario there both villianish and humourous also michief sneaky naughty.

Also how dedede played wario in SSE i think Wario needs some payback and show who really is the greediest thief of all lol.

Dedede is actually intelligent and plans things out in advance, despite his goofy antics.

Here's a long shot:
Little Mac and Dedede
Reason: Call back to Dededes fight in Super Star, which took place in a boxing ring.

Alternativley:
Little Mac and DK
Reason: Call back to the fight with DK in Punch-Out Wii.

Here's another bizarre one:
Pokemon Trainer vs. Olimar
Reason: Both are characters who fight with assistance from other characters.

Edit: One more
Yoshi and Kirby
Reason: Both characters have eating other characters as one of their moves.

Can anyone quickly please suggest good kirby games to start? and what systems there on.

Dedede hasn't really been a villain for a while; in most games he's trying to do something good, but Kirby misunderstands what he's doing, or he's being manipulated by a higher power. The best example of the former is Adventure, the best example of the latter is Dream Land 2 or 3.

Actually, given that Dedede's only real act of villainy is stealing food, he might make a good rival to K. Rool.

Kirby Superstar, which has a better done remake on the DS

Kirby's Squeek Squad didn't have the best "Story" but it had the best gameplay of all Kirby games. On the DS

Kirby's Dreamland 2 and 3 were really good, despite what others might say about 2. It's still an awesome game. ON gameboy/ super nintendo

Kirby 64 was great, and had an interesting change with the powers mechanic.

Return to Dreamland was...meh, but it wasn't bad. It's also multiplayer, so that's a plus. It's on the wii

@Psycho: No mention of Amazing Mirror(GBA) makes me sad. It's basically a Kirby Metroidvania, and is actually a better Metroidvania than some of the recent Metroids.

Here's another rivalry:

Link and Bowser:
Reason: Link rescues princesses, and Bowser kidnaps them. Bowser is also dragon-ish, and Dragons are recurring bosses in the Zelda series.

Mario and Wario: like opposites, so makes sence

Fox and Wolf: Star Fox vs Star Wolf or Fox and Falco: Not that they dislike each other, just for competition sake.

Kirby and Meta Knight: they battle a lot

Luigi and Diddy Kong
Reason: Both are sidekicks

Luigi and Jigglypuff
Reason: Both have been hidden characters since the first SSB.

I always did like Dedede, especially after playing a Kirby game. I always liked hammer users in general, but Dedede was always a comical guy in my opinion.


Anyway, Yoshi and Ice Climbers. You know what killed the dinosaurs? The Ice Age!

Reason: Both are puffball characters. They've also both been around since SSB64.

Takamaru and Goroh:
Reason: Both are samurai

Takamaru and Sheik:
Reason: Takamaru usually fights ninjas in his games.

Ridley flies into space and starts attacking foxes airwing mid flight? Slippy is screaming ''wahaha what the **** is that'!!''

Loool then Ridley punches through the windshield and grabs slippy and drags him flying back down to earth while yelling ''Ahhh fox saveee meeeee''

And fox just looks at Falco for a second and both say at the same time to each over while smiling ''Finally..''

Man, y'all are making such boring predictions. Most of them are good, but they're just so predictable. I'd like to see more that go beyond franchise lines.

Marth and Ridley
Reason: Ridley is a dragon, and dragons are recurring enemies in the Fire Emblem series.

To emphasis a rivalry between characters, I think there should be pre-battle cutscene to emphasis it akin to the ones from other fighting games like Tekken and Street Fighter. Also some other stuff like special victory quotes or poses.

Speaking of that, I think it's about time Smash implemented victory quotes.

Also, I think the cutscene should only occur in whatever single player mode that the rival battles are implemented.

totally could use cutscenes in for these rivalries much like in PSABR. for example lets say Yoshi and Kirby are rivals. you're playing the classic mode as Kirby

Kirby is just walking along and he sees an apple laying on the floor. Kirby goes running towards it and before he gets to it Yoshi's tongue snatches it up. Kirby doesn't like this so the fight begins. if you were playing as Yoshi the role would be reversed with Kirby sucking up said apple. that would be cool

Seriously, I think the next story mode will have a lot of unexpected rivalries, the so-crazy-it-actually-works kind. And I mean crazy like Amy Rose as a secret char in Soul Calibur (another sick weird dream I had. And you should see her Souledge Hammer!) or beyond.

Samus and Pit
Link and Takamaru

It's the rule of parallel probably speaking to be, but for those that are familiar with all these characters you should get an understanding of what I mean.

7 Samurai - Magnificent Seven, Yojimbo - A fistful of dollars.

I don't know what the good, the bad, and the ugly was based off of, but it's definitely Japanese influenced.

Good point! That was the reason the cutscenes in SSB: Brawl are all dialogueless.
However, in TLOZ: The Skyward Sword, they made funny cutscenes even if Link has no voice.
My favourite part is when Bado says:"I'll call this place... Badoland!" and then the music does a comically shrug.
So I think they can find a way to do the same in SSB4.

If the pre-battle cutscene thing is implemented, then having dialogue would only be applied to the correct context. For example we won't see Yoshi vs. Kirby have any dialogue, but something like Takamaru vs. Pit would have it.
