Hi, I made two videos (both pretty long) showing a bit about how these particular characters work, what their moves look like, and what I believe will end up being some key strategies to learn in the long run. In the applicable cases, I try to show how the character has changed from Melee.

This was done after only a few days with the Japanese version, so I obviously don't know everything about the characters, and what I say is subject to change when more people explore the characters of course. So don't take everything as gospel. :) But these are both good, informative videos to watch, in my opinion... please give me (constructive) feedback!

(Both videos cut out while I was recording due to running out of camera space... in the first case it's not so bad, but I don't get much footage of Wario in, sadly.)

Olimar and Sonic - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkSi-i9T7m4
Falcon, Ness, Lucas, Wario - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOdhGaThqYs
Snake, Marth, and Ike - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpGahx7Ev1s
-------------
The vids below are better quality, with my brother helping control the opponent. I also come in with a gameplan, showing off all the moves for each character! No more forgetting to show an important move!

Pit and Metaknight - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsdJnvZ8C3U
Pokemon Trainer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTP6-4x8msE

Thanks for the Olimar movie in particular. I'm having a lot of fun playing that one, but it looks like I've ways to go to really get control over the order changing.

Thanks, that was pretty interesting. It looks like Olimar's only going to be any good at all with practise.

Is there any chance that if you do any more you could quickly show a little more of Sonic's B moves? Aside from the down-B having a jump, I can't figure out what the real difference between it and his side-B is. Do they actually work significantly differently?

Here are my Sonic impressions (outlines some stuff not in the video, like the differences between B moves). I copied it from another forum I frequent.

Sonic - His run speed is ridiculously fast. His B moves are kind of strange... down B requires you to hold down and TAP B fast to build up its speed (holding B doesn't do anything and ends the move immediately). If you then hit A, you'll jump, and if you tap forward on the stick, you'll charge at the guy. Running and up-smashing is crazy, since you can start the up-smash about 10 character distances in front of the guy and Sonic will end up AT the character by the time the up-smash comse out. His aerials are all very good, but his up B spring is insanely good. You can chase off the top of the screen using it. Simply hit a guy up at around 100%, then immediately: jump, up B spring, up-air/back-air (all within about 0.5 seconds), and Sonic will close the distance to the top of the screen as fast as he can run. I don't think I land the combo too well in the video, but I show the potential. Also, his down-air is a dive kick-type thing which actually works well for edge guarding, believe it or not. Send someone out the side, chase after them, then do down-air to send them flying sideways and immediately do up B spring (the two kind of cancel each other out). You'll come back and grab the edge, while your opponent goes flying at basically no risk to you (since down-air has high priority and removes Sonic from the area so you can't be hit by counter-attacks).

-----

Down B - You hold both down and tap B to charge it up. You then press forward on the stick to set it off. You can change direction about 4 times before you run out (if you change direction as fast as possible, repeatedly), otherwise you can go the length of FD, change around at the end and make it back about halfway. You can jump at any time during this, and anytime Sonic hits his opponent he sends him airborne (why not follow up with jump, back air, spring, down air? The new pillar? Or spring back-air/up-air for KO potential )

Side B - You hold B as long as you want, and Sonic spins on the ground. When you let go of it, he slightly floats off the stage, and when he lands, he rolls at full speed into your opponent. You can change direction on this and jump out of it as well. I think it's got better power than down B, but you have to let it do its initial wind-up thing before you can use it.

Neutral B - Not a charge move at all, you just press B. Sonic hovers in the air (in ball form) and then lunges at your nearest opponent like a homing missile. Can be done in the air, and you keep all your jumps/up B afterwards. Sonic will move in any direction (including behind him) to hit someone with this. Not bad for trying air chases, and if you miss or he DIs too far away, just tap B. If you miss THAT, you can STILL attack in the air.

Sonic's rolls will be great for covering ground and setting up small little launchers for his good back-air. He can chase in the air off any launcher with great success, and he has a zillion options depending on what the guy does in the air. Unfortunately, he doesn't move laterally in the air with too much speed, so this limits him a bit. But I think he will be a great character, not to mention his insane speed allows most of these setups to work, and work reliably!

Next time I play, I'll get some good Sonic matches up against my brother. The thing is, though, he's just so fast he's hard to control at times. Once we reign him in a bit, he'll be great, but until then, we'll be missing a lot of combos/forgetting he has certain moves, etc. He has a lot of good launchers (the B spins, up-tilt), has good horizontal KO potential with f-smash, b-air, and d-air (surprisingly), and can cover the stage horizontally and vertically with equal speed (both unmatched by any other character, in my opinion). For example, if you are standing on the left side of FD, and you want to try and KO someone who is both HIGH (magnifying glass) and on the RIGHT side of FD, you can get to his exact location in UNDER 1 second. Run across the stage, and jump + up B and you're there faster than most character can get even 1/4 of the way across the stage! He's super fun to play as, and anyone who had hopes of maining him won't be disappointed!

These movies were great. I especially liked how you handled Olimar, I learned a lot from that video. Do you have any more comments about PK flash? Does it seem viable to use at all? Does it still fizzle if you're hit while casting?

Since Lucas' PK Freeze fizzles, I'd imagine the same is true for Ness.

His new air game looks crazy, and PK Thunder's added knockback is pretty sweet. PK Flash's added speed makes it look like a decent combo followup, assuming they don't airdodge through it.

I second the comment about you considering maining Ness. You made him look awesome.

Holy crap dude this kinda stuff is exactly what we need, great f*cking job!

Please...PLEASE..

Do one with Wolf when you unlock him(I noticed you havent got him yet)

Anyway nice job, Sonic looks like the kind of character who can become really lethal in the hands of someone dedicated to him. And Olimar, man thos white Pikmin pack a punch. Altho he looks troublesome to control, again, a character to be fearfull off in the hands of a Pro.

I'm looking forward to more of this

Heh, so it looks like between this and the Penny Arcade thread, I've got requests to do this type of video for... well, practically everyone else on the roster. :)

If I have time tonight, I might fire up a few more characters I enjoy playing as. I don't have all the characters unlocked yet (as evidenced by the character select screen), so I won't be able to do Wolf or Toon Link or something for a while. I might do Ike, though. Pikachu and Kirby also got some good buffs, so I might show them off.

I'd like to show off Snake, but really, those Psycho ****** videos posted in the other thread on these boards are a pretty good demonstration of him anyway! So I might go for the under-appreciated characters first.

Anyway, I appreciate the kind words, be sure to spread the word about these videos! I'll see if I have time to make one or two more tonight.

The Olimar and Sonic video was fantastic, I didn't know much about controlling Olimar's pikmin, so that was great. Now onto the other one.

Hey, is that Infil from the PDE? I remember you from waaaaay long ago. My name was Funkytoad there, though I'm not sure if you'd remember me at all, I was an annoying little **** then :p You were dating pikachelsea, right?

I'm going to watch your videos!

I would LOVE to see Kirby, Meta Knight and King Dedede videos, seeing as the three are among my six mains (along with Wolf, Lucario & Ganondorf) ESPECIALLY King Dedede. I wanna show myself that Dedede has great potential, and I hope you get along to it :D

Great videos. They are different than most gameplay videos because you explain what the moves are, how they have changed, and what stategies are possible. I wish more videos were like this.

I will request Link, even though he looks mostly unchanged.

Haha, yeah, I'm Infil from the PDE. I remember you, Funkytoad, even though I never really talked to you much. You probably still have my AIM contact!

As for future videos, I can't satisfy all requests I'm afraid, but I have plans to do:
- Snake and Ike (in one video)
- Pikachu, DK, Kirby, and Mario/Luigi (in one video)
- Fox, Falco, Wolf (in one video)

I hope to have these done in the next day or two, so watch out for them. It takes me about 10-20 minutes in training to make sure I know what I'm talking about, 10 minutes to record, about 30 minutes to compress, and about 2 hours to upload for EACH video, so they take a lot of work. :) So I really can't do the entire roster, but I'll try to do some of the ones that people want to see (especially that space animal comparison one).

I was grinning ear to ear during the whole Ness clip. Very cool videos. You're not making my decision on who to main any easier, though. -_- Everyone looks so good.

After watching some of the videos of 1v1's being put up recently, I was starting to get worried that Sonic really isn't that good. You really relieved me with this video, thank you.

One more thing though, about Sonic, I know his dash grab has great range, but how good do you personally think it is?

when you play your sonic matches tomorrow, you should look into using side-b as an edgeguard. like after a f-smash, side-b or down-b + jump out after them, hit em with 1 or 2 back airs, side-b back to the stage and up-b to recover. sonic has a crazy recovery, but i dont see enough people trying ballsy edgeguards yet.

also, you should see if you can do up-b, a attack, then another b move (neutral b or side b to recover)

Thanks for the videos. I suggest you play Sonic 2 or 3 to learn more about Sonic and why he has his moves though. :p

I realize it takes a while to do these...but if possible, could you do one on Pokemon Trainer and Lucario? With PT, it seems like everyone just mains Squirtle or Ivysaur...I still haven't seen anyone use Charizard regularly. And it seems like no one is good with Lucario, either.

By the way, that video just took me from not caring about Olimar to REALLY wanting to try him out.

Very good vids.

The first really resparked my interest in Olimar. With some practice, he can seriously own.

I've heard Sonic can spike. Can he? If so can you use your up b on the ground and spike people down onto it and back to you for a combo?
