Marth doesn't get much from his grab...I don't think crouch-cancelling works very well as a mindgame. Regardless of what happens, you're taking damage, and I consider that bad. In this situation, you either, a.)get grabbed, thus putting you on the losing end, or b.)get hit, then grab them, possibly putting you in a good position, but you still take the damage from an attack, which will, of course, do more than the pitiful grab damage you get in comparison. And considering that Marth really doesn't get very much guaranteed from his grabs against most characters, it doesn't seem a good trade-off to me.
Either way, Marth's CCing isn't as good as, say, any character with a good dsmash, as far as I'm concerned. He just doesn't get enough out of it.
Marths Grabs are great for setting up combos that lead to death or insane dmg. one grab on a fox and falco could mean 1 stock less to worry about. If captain falcon gets grab 1 up throw then a bunch of up tilts leaves that little 5-10% compared to the 30+ u just gave him?I don't think crouch-cancelling works very well as a mindgame.
