Jiggs is garbage Shulk is mediocre in everything, yet a Shulk main is SOMEHOW in top 20 in California. He's doing something that the rest of us are not. :smash::rolleyes:
Garbage characters are all a mater of opinion. Like I said Jiggs was considered garbage in Melee until Mango and Hbox. Pikachu was a solid mid tier until Axe.

Toon Link in Smash 4 is lower mid tier yet one of the top players in the world "Huyga" mains him. Tier list really don't mean that much.

Judging from actual pre-teen siblings... They actually get grabs and stuff but eh, whatever.

A::4mario::4cloud::4falcon::4littlemac::4ness::4villager::4darkpit:
B::4drmario::4fox::4pit::4kirby::4lucario::4diddy::4marth:
C::4diddy::4link::4mewtwo::4robinm::4shulk::4feroy::4lucina:
D::4olimar::4sheik::4greninja::4zelda::4falco::4gaw::4tlink:
E: :substitute: Everybody else, :4mii: included.
F::4duckhunt::4pacman::4peach::rosalina::4sonic::4bowserjr::4wiifit:

You probably noticed the complete lack of fatties. Not sure why but they just don't care about 'em.

:4mario: has two things going for him: Ease of use, and FLUDD being the destroyer of worlds. Some characters would be undeniably S tier if not for FLUDD basically counterpicking them, like Mac.

:4villager: is weird because he's more about survival then kills and apparently works out well for them.

:4pit:and:4darkpit:may seem weird at first, but they do have the fastest set of smashes in the game and the later has his buffed side B. Yeah, I'm probably carrying :4pit:'s position...

:4diddy:also has fast and effective smashes, and isn't hard to use either. Brother uses him a lot for some reason.

:4marth:can get a kill off half his moveset with rage. One of the characters I see my sister play as the most. She refuses to play:4lucina: because she's just worse. Okay, I told her that but it's not wrong...

:4feroy:is just a worse :4falcon:according to my sister. Did not tell her that one.

:4olimar:isn't really hard to grasp. Pik min, spam smash.

:4sheik:is another defensive character that just works for reasons I can't really explain.

F tier's mostly difficult characters they're not interested in learning at all.

Uh?
Probably not all of them, but I assure you a very large portion of casuals can't use FLUDD at all. I sure couldn't when I played Brawl and I was a Mario main long before that game. It still took me about 20 2 stock matches for me to learn how to use it and when to charge it correctly. And obviously I charge it and sometimes die with it fully charged without ever using it, it happens to the best of us.

Funny. Palutena is pretty bad in casual play, at least from what I've seen. She's very light, so characters like Bowser and Ganondorf kill her super early, her recovery is hard to control, and I don't feel like casual players would care much for her specials.
Casuals have no idea how to use his specials or advanced button commands. So basically you're limited to spamming smash attacks and aerials then.
How does this even work? What if a casual does care about her specials, or if a casual does know how to use Ryu's "advanced" inputs, or they know that Kirby's down-b is dumb and punishable?

You can still have an understanding of the game and still be a casual player. Which leads back to my original question, why would a casual tier list be any different from a "competitive" tier list.

Anyways, as a rebuttal to your Palu comments. Her recovery is definitely on the easier side, you just warp in the direction that the stick is tilted. It's not like Diddy's or Pikachu where you have to manage a bit extra. Normal specials are eh, but custom specials are dope.

Where do you put Palutena on a competitive tier list?

Probably the same with Marth. Most newbies assume he's female because he kind of looks it anyway.
Well, I knew Marth was a man when I was a little lad because I played Melee and had a working set of eyes. Melee is the game where he looks the least...

...androgynous.

I showed this picture to a woman in my Informatics course. She analysed it for a minute and then guessed it was a woman.

Where do you put Palutena on a competitive tier list?
Low, perhaps the very bottom of mid-tier, but no higher. She just doesn't have the tools to easily fend off the better characters. I only put her high for a "casual" tier list because she's my character behind ZSS and because I don't understand what makes it different from a "competitive" one.

You walk over to the ledge and hit down B twice... IDK, I see them use it effectively all the time. The list is more for FFAs then 1v1s.

I would put her at bottom 10 for the same reasons.

when i was reaidng this thread i was assuming items were on and very few restricted stages (never met a causal that like pacland or palutena temple or 75 meters.)
some good competitive character dont do well with items on (yoshi, ryu, and cloud come to mind) and oters (rosalina, fox, and villager) get better.

:4wario2:is by far the best character, because he can ride his bike back and forth and stump casuals that way.

So aside from the obvious choices I'm surprised no one else has said :4link:

I've had a ton of new players start at my house and almost every single one of them picks up Link and seems to do fairly decent with him.

He's heavy so you can make mistakes and live longer.
He's really strong and has strong smashes.
You can spam projectiles.
You can spam dair.
His recovery AKA upB has a good hitbox and can even nab kills, plus it's not too bad considering most casuals can't edgeguard too well.
He has a good back roll.
He has a strong dash attack.

Most importantly, his smashes are not just strong, but useful:
- Usmash hits 3 times catching rolls and spotdodges, it beats a lot of attacks from above, is strong, hard to fall out of, and it
has hitboxes on the sides which can lift the opponent into the later hits.
- Fsmash is really strong, but the fact that it requires a shield to be held for the later hit makes it safe for casuals, and of
course it benefits from great range due to a step in on the second hit.

:4link: is a character who massively benefits from c-sticking and I find most casuals perform quite well with him.

Well, most casuals seem to pick him because he's Link. He's popular, and people associate him with being a really strong characater thanks to his games.
Of course, since Link has a lot of things that can be abused by newer players, they can do somewhat decently with him.
