Normally I record my videos onto VHS and record the footage onto another computer using the TV software, recording them as .avi files. This was done on another persons computer. Now that I've gotten a capture card for myself, I tried using the same software to record (WinTV2000), but it only works on specific hardware, and is incompatible with my own hardware. I tried using the software that comes with the hardware drivers (TV5.4), but it only records 10 second .AVI files.

Would anyone know what computer TV software I would be able to use to record from VHS to AVI, since the aforementioned software doesn't work properly/at all?

I don't have any experience with recording using VHS, but I can tell you WinTV2000 isn't that good imo (it came with my capture card, but the video looked blurry and it messed up the frames).
VirtualDub works perfectly with my capture card and it can use other ways to capture as well, so I think it's possible that VirtualDub is compatible with your hardware.
It's free software, which you can download here: http://www.virtualdub.org/
It took me some time to figure out how it worked (I have no idea if there are any guides out there, but I didn't feel like searching), but now I'm getting good quality videos out of it. :)
