Why does greninja perform side special when attempting to execute up special 90% of the time?

Cant do Up Special with Greninja

This is a bigger issue on the 3DS because of the lack of notches on the plastic around the circle pad which means the stick doesn't 'lock' into position. On the GCC, I've had this happen way less often.
Speaking of lock, I don't think this warrants a whole thread so I'm going to lock this one. If you want to talk about it more, take it to The Pond.
