Just spent a good amount of time w/ lumines and this crossed my mind. What do you guys think?

*to be more specific, can they help build certain fundamentals (i. e. being aware of everything on the screen [doubles], having to think faster as the game flow increases, etc. )?*

Eh, I don't think so. Luminous is a very difernet game from melee, and fighting games are generally very different from puzzle games. I imagine the mental ability you'd need for one would differ from the other.

To get good at Melee, you need to be playing Melee, not Luminous.

This is relevant:

tl;dr: playing video games improves ability to multitask, process new visual information, etc in ways that are detectable even outside of the games.

Given that, it's not hard to believe that some skills improved through playing other games will help you up your melee game. I don't play puzzle games, so I haven't noticed this, but playing Street Fighter (for example) has helped me to be more conscious of things like spacing and how safe on block my attacks are.

I play a lot of puzzle games. I find smash can help me with them but not really the other way around
