Smash 3DS Can me and my friend play on same 3ds but one of us using an external controller?

We want to have a tournament w/friends but as you can think about it, we only have one 3ds and nobody has anything that thry can play on.And as I said in the title,can we play with external controllers or maybe a phone app?

not really, no. the 3DS doesn't support multiple players from one system for smash, so unless you look to emulation, there's not much you can do. apologies!
