Ryu and Ken are so hard to use. I don’t really have the patience for real neutral and he can’t approach with dash attack-dash grab 50/50.

Can I be good with Ryu knowing only fundamentals

I don't play Ryu or Ken but just as with any character, it's better to know what character specific stuff works for them to push your advantage state further and mix up your opponent. Having good fundamentals is also important but to be as good as you can with a character you need to know what tools they have, how to use them, and when to use them.
