Here is a minor thing that really bothers me, can different regions of Smash Bros 3DS local play? Like if my friend has a Japanese Smash Bros and I got a US version, can we still connect to each other?(I am asking this because you can't local play with different regions like MK7, but you can like Pokemon XY), help me out guys.

I'm not sure. Can't remember seeing anything on it. But if I had to guess I'd say yes. Otherwise it would make competitions difficult by making it so they'd have to have 3ds' for each region they played in.

Huh, I'm really wondering this myself. I'll be getting both versions (Eng and ***), so it'd be nice to be able to use both to play locally with friends.

In online multiplayer, I don't think regions ever get locked, because it's worldwide!
Local, however... yeah....

Local Multiplayer gets region locked? What?

I'm an American in the UK and only have my American 3DS. XP

Yeah, that's what I think too.

No,no, don't panic, but I am just wondering if different regions( especially Japanese versions), have region lock between local plays like Mario Kart 7, or it can like Pokemon XY, Sakurai has never mention this before. And we all know that there are always some minor differences between regions from the past Smash Bros games, that's the one that I am worrying about.

I was about to say yes, but then your post reminded me how there's usually region differences. If there's a single difference this time around (Let's admit it, there probably will be a few differences), then you can only play against the people in the same region, if there isn't, then assume it can do local with other regions copies of the games until proven otherwise.

This was just my personal guess, we still can not know if there are any differences between regions, and just like I told you they are just MINOR differences like trophies, names, etc. I don't think these differences will effect the local gameplay.

If there's differences in the different regions, then how will online work? I don't think that the game will be adjusting things in real-time to fit both players, so how would that work?

It was just my guess! We still had not seen any gameplay differeces between regions, and I hope they don't have differences.

I think you can, because it's the same game, but I could be wrong.

Oh, I'm not questioning your theory, but you've acknowledged that gameplay differences may be present in these games, which I hadn't really thought of. Hopefully there isn't any, haha.

Nintendo supports online play with servers that the system runs through. You connect to Nintendos computer and so does some guy jn Japan, and Nintendos computer runs a software thet lets you play together, tracks data, sends feedback, etc. This is what allows games with differences to play together, Nintendo mitigates the differences.

Local play doesnt have that which is why some 3DS games get region locked for Local Play. As for whether Smash does too I have no idea and im Surprised more people who are planning on importing it arent super concerned about this huge issue.

MK7 is region locked...I wonder why. Does anyone know what the differences are between Japanese and English MK7?

Then, are there any differences at all between the japanese and english versions of pokemon XY??
Of course not! So is Mario Kart 7, I really hope you still can local play with other regions of smash bros. Otherwise, I have to play Smash Bros by myself.

You can play with people from japan in Mario Kart 8, so I don't see why not.

I'm 100% on Pokemon, though. You can even stick a US cart in a Japanese 3DS to use Pokebank, according to Seribii.
Hello guys, I am talking about Wireless Local Play, not online play.

Hey guys! A US demo is out! Can some of you try to local play with a Japanese demo?

As far as I can tell the full game does not support download play across regions. I tried hosting a game, and my US 3DS could not find the room.

As other users have pointed out, local download play does not work for Mario Kart 7 either.

Download play on the 3DS is region locked, full stop. Not that Smash has Download play regardless.

That being said, North American and Europe/Oceania demos can play with each other locally with no issue.

Technically, the full game does not support local play with the demo, nuff said Japanese full game with the US demo.
