Hey guys my friend is new to competitive Smash and she's been jumping with the joy-stick all this time. I'm trying to figure out a way for her to Short-Hop easily.

Does anyone have any tips? How do you guys short-hop with the Joy-stick?

Also I practiced this for a while, but it seems that a short-hop with a Joy-stick is HIGHER than one with the C-buttons?
Is this true or what~

I just tried this out with ness on DL and I got 3 different jumps

Short hop(C)

Short hop (stick)

Regular jump

As for your stickshort jumping, thats pretty tough to keep doing normally. Why not just use C?

You can jump higher with joystick than you can with c- buttons, so it would be really difficult to short-jump with joystick as low as with c-buttons, if its even possible.

I do a button slide from the c-button down to the a on the n64 controller. when I djc, its the same slide, but starting on the outside right, to the down, then to A. like....... think about it as a key stroke pattern........ if that helps? do you use R, or A for Aerials?

short hopping with the joystick will only make that poor quality stick's lifespan even shorter

I don't jump with the joy-stick, my friend jumps with the joy-stick.
Personally I use R and C for aerials/jumps
but she uses the A and Joy-stick for her aerials/jumps

but I was just curious as to on a competitive basis are Joy-stick jumpers at a disadvantage, because it seems like throwing SH Up-Airs would be harder, and also it seems as if short hops with the Joystick are HIGHER than with the C buttons

I think I mentioned this a ways back, but I only jump with the C stick when using characters with juggling Uairs, so I don't accidentally double jump. And even then, it's only on the first jump. It might actually be advantageous sometimes if you're Falcon or whatever and need to get some extra height to tipper that Uair or something.

I dont use the c-buttons to jump only to short hop, if she uses the bottom c button, it works pretty well for joy stick users, just takes some time to get used to

i only use the stick to jump for certain situations in which i need a higher jump
trying to learn to short hop with the stick is a bad idea just use the c buttons...

Plus, you gotta factor in human limitations and consistency. Even if you did manage to short hop with the stick, do you think you could consistently do it?

Okay, not apply that same mindset to the last game of the last match of the championship of a tourney. Hands shaking, sweaty fingers... good luck trying to short hop.

It's hard enough as it is with the motor control of an average person, and if you physically cannot do something in a video game, then you should reallllllly reconsider how you're doing that something.

Nobody's that precise, and I know tons of people still have issues doing an U-air without smashing the stick, causing a jump, and the precision for a sticked shorthop is even finer.

I see a lot more keyboard users doing fastfall and platform drop uairs now.... I'm impressed.
