There is a setting that buffers 10-100%. Isn't that the same as "Input assist". To my understanding it gives a frame buffer to a certain percent (The % you have selected) I haven't seen any rules about it when it comes to tournaments. Is it legal? Am I totally wrong in understanding what it means?

Neither buffering nor input assist are generally tournament legal. Pretty much, tournament legal is leaving every setting at its default for PM.

Can we get an official rule on this? There was a stipulation at a tournament that allowed it. I lost because of it and I wasn't too happy.

Why would you lose because buffering was on? Because the other player played better with it?

I think PM would be better with input assist turned on, but Melee players fight it like nuts because it offends their tech skill. (They don't realize how many cool things are enabled by turning it on.)

A tournament can set whatever rules they want. The PM defaults are just the widely-accepted standards.

There's lots of ATs that aren't competitively viable with buffering turned off but can be pulled off with buffering on.

Yeah, it lowers the tech skill threshhold to do certain things, but it still requires the knowledge to do so. With buffering you can queue inputs and do things vastly more complicated than without it.

Plenty of Melee players get upset because anything that makes inputs easier must be bad, though.

There was already a buffering / input assist thread and it did not go well. Let's just leave it at that.

The only thing Buffer enables is the likelihood that you will get buffered into an air dodge off the edge or any sort of attack. It's not needed otherwise. The game is to tight and quick for buffer to even be a concern.

Doesn't it affect their character? He did play better with it on. If it does, doesn't that affect how I play/handle them when I play? Yes. That's unfair.
