Brawl won't play on WiiU

So after my Wii got screwed up (disc drive grinding), I decided to play it on my WiiU. After I load it via WiiU's Wii menu, I get an error saying "disc could not be read". I remember the early Wii's doing that due to manufacture errors on not reading dual-layered discs. So does the WiiU have the same problem or is it the disc?

Do other Wii games work properly? I haven't had any issue like that with my Wii U, I would have to guess it would be a problem with the disc if that's the only game that has an issue being read.
