I have always liked having a leaderboard for an online game, it just seems odd not to have one :\

I'm currently working on a user managed leaderboard. It will be forum based. The way it will work, is users will create a battle request, with their special rules on it, and wait for a response. When another user accepts their challenge, wii ids will be forwarded to each person so they can add the other, and they begin the battle.

After the battle is over, they(hopefully) come back and add the final details of the battle(who won, who lost, lives, and such.)

Both|all users will have to post on the battle(confirmation) before the stats are updated on the leaderboard.

Simna ibn Sind;2918942 think about it....the BACKBONE of the smash bros community is the arrogant noob who beats all his friends and believes he is the best(you know who im talking about). Its this person that makes the smash community so large and competetive...its these people that will enter any tournament anywhere because they are the best. This person believes they are the best because of how well they do with the few people they have played. With [URL="http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=117294#" said:
online play[/URL]...players like this will be able to take on anyone and many may find out that they really arent that good...and thus destroying the backbone of the community
This reminds me of another point. What about those arrogant halo noobs. I have friends that brag to me that they can beat me at anytime cause they play that game 24/7. Im like "okay but i never play it" and then they challenge me and lose. To lose to me in a shooter game... Thats like hella embarassing cause i suck at them. So that makes him a halo "arrogant noob" but halo is basically all online. Also the tournament sceen for halo is probably stronger than smash. Why? Cause Halo is a more popular game. This is why MLG dropped smash and continued with Halo. personally, the best ranking system i've seen would be Warcraft IIIs ladder. So well organized/updated.

i guess i have to say that I agree. Unfortunately, people were hoping for a more organized smashing community, one that they were able to hold tournaments online. The way I say it, and I think Simna agrees, rankings are not as important as they seem. It really is all for the fun, and rankings act as the motivation. I see a definite smash life without rankings. Hey, maybe people can actually host tournaments: make a list of something on smashboards and call it a tourney, and then people exchange friend codes, and there you have it. But as of now, only time will tell

There's not one person who can honestly tell me that this game wouldn't be 1,000 times better on XBL.
I can certainly tell you that isn't true. Online play is nowhere near important enough for that kind of increase. The game's online feature might be better but, meh... I kinda entirely agree with phanna on this one.

Anyway, I'm still surprised that people are like 'wtf omg no ranking??', as though it's news. We've known this since Samurai Panda first put up his translation thread, which was like, a year ago. I guess I'm just a Brawl vet.

The rankings aren't even that big of a deal. It'd be nice if they had them, but that's not even the 10th thing wrong with the online mode. There's absolutely no way to communicate with your opponents for one thing. Do you know how much it sucks to be randomly matched against someone, have great matches with that person, and then never be able to play them again? That's how it is in Mario Kart DS, and it sucks. In Brawl it'll be even worse, because even if by some chance of luck you do play that person again, you won't even know it.

And you can't even send messages to random people. In MKDS people would do things like write their email or their myspace in their icons so that people could contact them and exchange friend codes. In this game you can't even do that.

I'm not disappointed, because I expected the online to be half @#$. I'm just saying, Microsoft and Sony are decades ahead of Nintendo when it comes to online play. The only people that refuse to admit that are the biased Nintendo fanboys who refuse to say anything bad about anything Nintendo does. The sooner more people admit that Nintendo's online sucks, the sooner Nintendo will be forced to do something about it.

And when I said the game would be 1,000 times better on Xbox Live, I meant that the online set up would be 1,000 times better. I thought that it was pretty clear that I was talking about online, but I guess not.

I agree that any online is better then no online, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think that they could have made the online set up much better.

The one thing that really disappoints me is no communication. That is definitely a fault. One can't even argue that it would of been too hard to implement, as even just retaining the four taunts and names like 'With Friends' mode would of been something, but it looks like they actually took it out.

The rest is meh.

Nintendo is taking a step down if they keep the Wi-Fi the way it is. People argue about how Sakurai says he'll add more Wi-Fi services in the future, but what does that have to do with anything? What if those are mini-games or other bits that weren't already stated not to appear?
