Smash Obsessed
As many of you know, recent hacks have been released for Super Smash Bros Brawl to change aspects of the game similar to Melee. People have changed the air dodge system, given a way to cancel the lag from aerials, and remove tripping. This isn't even the end of it, as more hacks are currently in development.
While I don't believe this should replace the regular Brawl (and I don't think it ever will), I however see a lot of potential in this. Being an aspiring game developer myself, I find a lot of things like this very interesting, and I want to see how a Super Smash Bros game can turn out when the community has the control to change various aspects of it.
I am an esteemed tournament director in my area, and am currently running biweekly tournaments at my college, and I recently decided to include the first ever "Brawl+" side event at my next tourney (which is primarily a Melee tourney). I think it will be interesting to see how the Melee vets who normally disown Brawl think about the new changes.
I am currently just setting a small tourney entrance fee of $3 so most players probably won't mind entering, and I will try to keep a close look at matches to look out for how it changes the meta game. Do any characters become overpowered? Do the codes need to be changed in anyway? Etc.
You can find the thread for my biweekly here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=197124
The Name?
I saw someone (I can't remember who) call this modified Brawl as Brawl+ once, and I really like the sound of it.
Current Rules
You can find all of the current rules I'm using for Brawl+ on my biweeklies page, however it basically goes like this:
-All standard Brawl rules and stage lists
-No Tripping Code
-S Canceling Code
-Melee Air Dodge Code
Tourney Results
Coming Soon
I encourage people who support this new way to play (remember, just as a supplement, not to replace regular Brawl) to try this out by adding it as a side event at your next tourney. Post results and impressions if you do.
