I know that alot of people went wtf over the update that Zamus is currently
as of right now only seen to be unlockable through item use. A factor which
leads to question many tournament smashers including myself whether or not
she will be usable at all in the competitive scene.
We all know that speed was one of the primary guarantees in Melee where
characters like Fox, Falco, Marth, and Sheik were seen as high tiers where a
few exceptions, like Peach and others like Ganandorf (yes, I said Ganandorf...
his SHFFL was an advantage and a downright beatdown in the cases that I
have seen to pros when played against other top tiers whose players were not
so pro like...)
And we also know that being slow was one of the primary guarantees in Melee
where a character was generally ****. I mean who used Bowser, DK, or Pichu
(He or she...was not that slow compared to the others but **** nonetheless.)
Now, just try to imagine this, what if Brawl was a way to try to correct this? Like a
Nintendo representative said in the E3 press conference about Mariokart Wii, the
gameplay will change so that even new comers can compete with veterans. If you
somehow doubt my claim, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PfJ5j094Pk
0:50 to 1:41.
Nintendo has always been about having fun and balance and I do believe that Melee,
even though it was intended to be fun, was NOT trying to be a huge competitive
game like Marvel v Capcom 2 and all the techs we come to know and love were not
intended by the developers to be used.
I doubt that now Masahiro Sakurai has seen Melee for its end result where
characters were not being used at all he will try and incorparate Brawl for the
same result. I do believe that he will make mistakes here or there and hopefully
they will be abused to become new techs or that he will still decide to leave some
in. Even though I truly enjoyed Melee for the tournaments I went and the fun I had,
there is indeed a HUGE possibility that Brawl is not going to have SHFFL or all those
other techs that made Melee the competitive game we come to know and love.
I mean face it, if Melee did not have SHFFL or Wavedashing (Where Fox's combos
like waveshine and drillshine would have been non-existant) would Melee have been
the game it is today? I, for one, do not think so.
If Melee was just another Super Smash Bros. but with no techs and better
graphics, I believe that Melee would have just been a fun fighting game where
people would play for months and then go on to better things.
(I know I still played Melee for a year and a half where I sucked horribly and was
about to trade the game into Gamestop until my friend showed me Fox's waveshine
and thats where I saw Melee could be a bit more intresting if I learned how to do
those neat techs and learned to suck less.)
So if Brawl truly is a correction of Melee where characters like Pichu, yes...Pichu,
actually stood a chance against Bombsoldier's Falco or Ken's Marth...yes, a very
lol parrallel universe indeed. Would it have the same success as Melee?
Now I know this is a long post so bare with me.
People have been doing alot of complaining where if there is no online play, Brawl
would never compete against games like Halo 3 or they would just not buy the
game period.
So is online play the real big factor in determining Brawl's success?
Here is my last two questions to all of you:
If Brawl had no online play but still held enough techs where it was still competitive
worthy, would it be successful?
or
If Brawl had online play but the techs, if any, were still **** enough where it was a
dissappointment to the competitive lovers of Melee, would it then be the same
success as Melee?
And by the same success as Melee, I generally mean that the game is
competitive enough where there will be tournaments held even five no maybe
six years after its release and there is some website for it where they show
upcoming tournaments and have tech discussions about the individual characters
for it.
-Thank you for your time.
