I almost completely forgot about the Wii's widescreen setting. Will the game will be playable in the extra wide view? If it can, will that extend the distance off the sides it takes to be KO'd?

Even though there is already a thread about wide screen, the point about the KO distance hasn't been brought up yet before.

I don't know, maybe Sakurai may drop wide screen altogether.

I never thought about the blast lines before. Maybe he'll get rid of the bubbles and make some sort of line that represents the blast line for 16:9 mode,

The game will be 16:9 compatible... if it isn't Nintendo will be attacked from all sides by people and rightly so. Goldeneye 007 was 16:9 compatible!

As regards the extra bars of open space at the side centre stage I can't see it drastically altering game play as post 150% you get KO'd with the slightest tap.

So, basically, 16:9 would be a boost to characters with excellent horizontal recovery.

Brawl = A long awaited game with MANY fans of the series, with its last game selling the most out of any other game for it system. If they didn't add 16:9 as well as other formats, they weren't thinking hard enough.

I think 5150 and kin3tic-c4jun-3 are right. The camera just won't move as much.

This seems like the most likely choice, but i dont see the point of having widescreen if you dont have to, and as far as the KO thing goes lol that would be completely ******** if that happened :(

I'm gonna have to agree with 5150 here. What makes you think widescreen would actually extend the horizontal deathzone boundaries? Widescreen support would only affect the camera's viewable area. It won't have to pan out horizontally as much, and you'd get to see more of what's going on in the level. Having it effect something as profound as the KO boundaries would, in fact, be ********.

In Melee, characters always KO off screen. Do you think that some KOs will be visible by means of using widescreen on a narrow stage?

What may be a little more of a problem could be the fact that you now can see past the bubble boundaries. This means that widescreeners have an advantage over the smallscreeners.

Of course, Sakurai could solve this by adding a "4:3 Only" subsequently "16:9 Only" option for the create game thing in multiplayer.

What do you check for when shopping for a big TV to see if it has lag? I remember almost hosting a two state crew battle on a big screen TV (so everyone could watch), but the time between button presses and a response was almost a full second. Do you just ask the store associate to let you plug in a device and see? :p

I'm sure Sakurai will do a good job =P.
I'd bet any money that this has already come to mind and him and the team have thought up a solution.
Ugh, I want Brawl so bad it hurts.

Buzz raises a good point here, but that problem has an easy quick fix solution: Give an actual animation to the KO besides the "splash." That way you can keep the original boundaries of a stage, and even if you can see the KO on a thin stage, it won't look awkward.

But it would affect one aspect of gameplay that doesn't really matter much. In Melee, whenever you are off screen you take damage, so if you have widescreen you wouldn't take as much damage as normal.

I'm sure the team has already thought of solutions for everything in the game. The point is that we don't know any of them.

lol...

The widescreen won't be big enough to extend past the KO points. The camera won't move from side to side as much is all.
Thats how I want it to be, I don't like my games getting stretched out because of my widescreen..

I would like to.... have a less zoomy and movy camera.
