Someone recently purchased the Wii for me as a gift, and included was a 4gb "wii edition" sandisk sdcard. It worked fine for the purposes of homebrew, but as you know, Smash can't read sdcards over 2gb.

I thought this extended only to saving files, and that the Wii could always call files from the card, but it seems I was wrong. I'm just wanting to confirm that this is true:

Any code that asks the game to call a file from the sdcard (say file replacement codes used for Brawl+/- pac files and textures) can't be used with a 4gb card because Brawl doesnt' recognize them. Is this true? Because I can't get any stage textures or hacks to work with the card. Maybe I'm just putting the files in the wrong place though.

If so I'll have to just buy a new one, whatever.

Right, the Wii itself can read any card that isn't SDHC, but Brawl still has the annoying 2gb limitation even after the 4.2 upgrade (my Wii is 4.2).

So my question is just basically if the file replacement code asking Brawl to call files from a 4gb card is going to work or not.

Interestingly enough, I just found out 4.0 and above CAN read SDHC cards, and that the Wii edition SD card from sandisk is in fact SDHC. Source: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/sdCards.jsp

I've never used Riivolution; my hacking experience is basically limited to illegal activities involving a USB stick and gecko. What is Riivolution?

Is there a guide to using Riivolution for file replacement?

You don't need to learn XML, just copy the SSBB template with the FPC XML off the site and use it the same as an SD card, it's actually much simpler and offers a lot more variety

I'd say it's overall better if it worked with Dantarion Alternate Stage Loader code, without it and having basically every file on the game replaced I still fall short of 2GB

If you're doing "illegal activities" involving a USB stick, Riivolution won't work for you.

Buy a new SD Card.

...Yeah, right.

I understand you're talking about textures, but if you replace even roughly a third of the music files you'll hit 2 GB in no time (then again, I have been meaning to look into the BRSTM rate converter, apparently it shrinks filesize quite a bit...so I could be wrong...). And nobody replaces half the files the ISO has, because they're all essential data structure or online or coin shooter or whatever.

So that's why my textures, and all(except the codes...the codes work) are not working for me! I have an 8GB SD Card. >_>

Guess I gotta buy a 2GB SD V_V

I meant files that matter/are commonly replaced, I have every stage music file replaced, textures on every stage just about, replacements and textures for every character, etc.

Sorry for the bump, kinda need answers, fast :o

I recently bought a 4GB SDHC card because my 2GB SD card isnt enough for my music files.
Is there any way i could make the 4GB work? i need to put more music in but 2 GB isnt enough :(

If i go back to the store and replace my 4GB HDSC card with a normal one, would it work or it wouldnt be any different?

Thanks in advance and again, i apologize for the thread bump.
I am on firmware 4.1E

Use Riivolution, since there's no other way that you can get an SDHC card to work with Brawl. Also, you'll probably never ever find a standard 4 GB SD card.

P.S.: The quality of your music can affect the file size of it; number of channels, sample rate, length of BGM. A BRSTM file with a sample rate of 32000 Hz will use less memory than one with a sample rate of 41000 Hz if they use the same number of channels and have the exact same time length.
