"Just announced, the next Smash Brothers game is Super Smash Brothers 360, for the Xbox 360. Although the Smash Bros games feature Nintendo characters and would therefore naturally only be on Nintendo system, this one was designed to do Smash Bros Brawl justice. It actually isn’t surprising, considering Brawl included two 3rd party characters, Sonic and Snake. Although porting to another system is quite controversial and major, it only seems like the logical thing to do. As Sakurai, the game’s lead designer said, “I knew with [Brawl] there were so many things I wanted to do, but could not on the Wii. A few years into production of [Brawl], I decided there had to be a way to implement certain features into the next Smash Bros game.” He continued on, describing how Microsoft offered him a team to port Brawl onto the Xbox 360 and he accepted, keeping it under wraps. This timely announcement has come as a sort of anniversary, year-to-go thing, as the original Smash Bros came out in April 1999, and this 360 version is set to come out in April 2009.
The 360 version isn’t Super Smash Bros 4, but more of a Smash Brothers 3.60, conveniently enough. It will feature fully support Xbox Live online services (that means Voice Chat and no Friend’s Codes), new items, such as the 1-up Mushroom and Devolver (it temporarily reverts characters back to their original form and limits them to no more than 2 button controls), Pokeballs, Assist Trophies, levels, and best of all characters. The 35 character roster will be included from the start and the game is set to include 44 total. It has already been confirmed that Master Chief and Banjo-Kazooie will be 2 of the new unlockables. It was stated these will be the only Microsoft characters as the developers did not want this game to turn into a non-Nintendo brawl. The other 6 haven’t been revealed, but it’s likely we will see Ridley, Krystal, and Geno—3 popular picks which weren’t included in Brawl—or perhaps Mewtwo and Roy. Although there is no planned DLC, Sakurai said it is something he hopes to do and is able to thanks to the Xbox 360 HD. This brawl will also included improved graphics, more interactive levels, an expanded Stage Builder, and 400 songs total. Unfortunately the game was made with Xbox gamers in mind, as Nintendo is hoping to expand their territory, and will only be playable using the Xbox controller."
