I strongly believe that Dark Pit will be a boss on Palutena's Temple. I posted this on r/smashbros but it was largely ignored, and I would like to hear some counter arguments. There are two pieces of circumstantial evidence, and one piece of hard evidence that suggests this to be the case.
First, Dark Pit's colors/ costume was not seen in any of the demos, despite it being featured in Brawl.
Secondly, Dark Pit was featured at the end Palutena's reveal trailer as 'always crashing her party'. While Chrom's role in Sm4sh was clearly explained after his was shown, Dark Pit's role still remains a mystery. I don't think Sakurai would show off another character just for a trailer, he's always had some purpose for their inclusion.
Lastly, in the Super Smash Brothers direct, there was a short clip of ZSS in Palutena's Temple with the text "残りHP". In English this means how much HP is left. Since Smash counts up for HP, this does not make any sense for the regular fighters. However, boss characters have a set amount of health. For video proof, check out Gamexplain's analysis of the Smash Direct (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dzSeICAwZA#t=841) exactly 14 minutes into it. However, this could simply mean that there will be a Boss character on the stage, and not necessarily Dark Pit. After all it is a huge stage, and Kid Icarus has a lot of boss characters that they could draw from.
If I recall correctly, Palutena's temple was also not playable at E3, just like Pyrosphere (which we know has some form as Ridley as a boss). So, Sakurai and co could be trying to hide all the bosses for a bigger (pun intended) reveal later, most likely after the 3DS version is released, and to hype the Wii U version.
