Lately, I've been trying to think up a concept for Boss Battles if Adventure mode was to return. I do have the following in mind...

Playthrough
The player faces off against each one of the various bosses from Adventure mode. However, the player only has one life, and getting KO'd even once will result in a game over.

Bosses in this game mode will have less HP than normal, and deal less damage than they would in Adventure mode. Also, for some bosses, if fought late, their stronger counterparts would appear instead.

After a boss is defeated, the player gets taken to the Rest Area. The boss order is completely random, except for the final three bosses, whom will always be fought in a set order.

Custom special moves are permitted, but equipment will be disabled, due to the recovery restrictions.

Rest Area
Much like in All-Star mode, the player will get to see the next boss that he/she must fight. There are also five Heart Containers present, and if one gets consumed, it will be replaced by a Maxim Tomato when the player returns. If the Maxim Tomato is consumed, it will not respawn.

The Heart Container fully heals the player, while the Maxim Tomato lowers the player's current damage to 1/4 its previous value (Ex.: 100 * 0.25 = 25).

If two players are playing, three additional Heart Containers would be available as well. They too will be replaced by Maxim Tomatoes when picked up.

On a side note, while in the Rest Area, the player can save his/her progress in Boss Battles and suspend play. However, the save data will be erased when the player resumes play.

Difficulty Levels
Boss Battles has three difficulty levels, which are Easy, Normal, and Hard. The difficulty affects how damaging the boss' attacks are, along with how strong the player's knockback resistance will be. Additionally, the difficulty affects how much HP the bosses will have, but for the bosses who are also playable fighters (in the form of Final Smashes), the amount of knockback that they take will be affected instead.

Difficulty Level | Knockback Taken (player) | Damage Multiplier (bosses)
Easy | 0.7x | 0.6x - 0.7x
Normal | 0.8x | 0.7x - 0.8x
Hard | 0.9x | 0.8x - 0.9x
Possible Bosses Fought
The following is basically a list of possible bosses that could appear in Boss Battles. Bosses that are colored green will use a damage meter, instead of an HP meter; such bosses can also flinch and take knockback.

Mid-boss Bonanza | Mid-boss Bonanza | Mid-boss Bonanza
Mid-boss Bonanza
One of the rounds in Boss Battles requires the player to defeat every single mid-boss in a single round. Only one mid-boss appears at a time, and they typically have less HP than the other bosses. Mid-bosses would include the following...
  • Big Goomba
  • Lynel, Blue-Maned Lynel, White-Maned Lynel, Silver Lynel, or Golden Lynel
  • Bonkers, Super Bonkers, Bonkers EX, or Super Bonkers EX
  • Devil Car or Mad Car
  • Eggplant Wizard
  • Big Red Bulborb
The Final Three
The final three bosses are always fought in a set order.
  • Quarterfinal: Master Hand & Crazy Hand
  • Semifinal: Giga Bowser
  • Final: Master Core (all forms, excluding Master Fortress)
Challenges
Because the length of a single Boss Battles playthrough can end up being longer than that of Classic, Adventure, and All-Star, the amount of challenges for it would be limited to just three.
  • Clear Boss Battles.
  • Clear Boss Battles on Normal difficulty or higher.
  • Clear Boss Battles on Hard difficulty.
The player can potentially clear all three challenges in a single playthrough by choosing the hardest difficulty setting.
