Boomerang Catch automatically cancelled? (3.0)

So I just downloaded 3.0, and the new costume is hype as ****. Anyway, it seems like if you're not standing still, the animation for catching your boomerang is cancelled. Was this always there? Does it open up any new combos for Tink?

This was implemented in 2.6. It does expand his combo options considerably, as well as making his previous rang follow-ups more lenient.
