Also, if you wanted to know, Dead Space is a survival-horror game that came out a few years back, in 2008, I believe.

The reason "hivemind" reminds me of the game refers to the final boss of the game, also named the Hive Mind.

Similar to the functions of group minds, the Hive Mind was believed to be the guiding intelligence of the grotesque enemies of the series; the Necromorphs.

Necromorphs may seem like mindless killing machines, but they are actually intelligent alien lifeforms who are driven and commanded by the Hive Mind.

The belief that the Hive Mind was the guiding intelligence was eventually disproven later in the series, when the Brethren Moons were introduced. However, they share a very similar function to the Hive Mind, and the Hive Mind only exists as a drone that the Moons can use to control the Necromorphs and attack at ground level when they can't themselves.
