My mom wants to go Black Friday shopping. I'm obliged to accompany her since I'm the one who plans which gifts to get for my cousin and brother on their birthdays and Christmas. But I strongly dislike Black Friday. :urg:

What about it that you hate?

It's crowded with a bunch of people pushing and shoving to get deals. At least on regular days, people are at least somewhat more polite and courteous. Also I'm somewhat of a doormat in real life, so like last year, I was going to get a cart and people kept stepping in front of me and taking my cart. :urg:

Probably because this isn't a joke. . .

This'll be my fourth year Black Friday shopping. And every year I've went, nothing serious happened (except for excessive rudeness). The anomalies are exaggerated, to be honest. It's more tame than you'd think.

If you saw some of my classmates' sense of humor, you'd think of me as somewhat tame. ;)

I'd tell your friend off too just like I would to you. :p

Really?
Huh. . . alright then

I think it has to do with the relative wealth of the community. Like I live in a prissy, relatively rich suburb, so I guess people aren't willing to bust down doors for the doorbusters. (Though they are willing to take my cart ;-; )

I never understood Black Friday. Like, whoop-dee-doo they're having a sale; a TV is not worth trampling over someone to death.
It's like the one time of the year where it's okay to be feral beasts (at least, that isn't Christmas).

From what I've heard, people justify buying stuff they don't need by saying that they're saving money. Even then, if it's something you don't really need, then is it worth buying it in the first place? For example, a friend of mine last year bought a third PS4. I asked him why and he said because it was saving him money. As his good friend, I can tell you that he didn't need that third PS4. I don't think he has even used it yet and it's been a year!
Also, to allow for such deals, a lot of companies will use lower quality materials to not suffer heavy losses from the cheaper prices. So even then, you're still probably losing money by participating in the Black Friday madness.
For my family, in particular, between November and December, we've got 4 birthdays and Christmas to celebrate (ie. buy stuff for), so saving some money helps. We're usually pretty cautious about avoiding the products that have cheaper materials used just for Black Friday--I'm taking credit for that--so we do still save some money in the end. And it helps.

Did the last two Ps4s break or was he just getting them just because they were on sale? because if it's the latter then it's just a loss of money not saving money..

Both PS4s are fully-functional. Like I said when I edited my post, he hasn't even used that third one. It just sits there, unopened and unplayed...
It really is a loss of money. He just says that because he got it for less money than his other PS4s, he somehow saved money. But then...logic.

I hate shopping with my family...

They're just...so annoying and, most of the time, I'd end up buying what THEY want...as if MY opinions about which clothes I'd wear wasn't worth ****

Now that I'm all grown up and responsible...ish, I get to FINALLY do it alone and, funnily enough, it takes me 1 store and 2 hours to get some clothes on my own instead of 10+ stores and 2 weeks with constant arguing.

I'm starting to appreciate shopping these days...

Come to think of it, a lot of things I hated in the past became bearable with the newfound freedom and independance I got from growing up...

Black Friday seems to bring out some of the worst things in people, from rudeness to mindlessly money spending, all in desperation of getting as many cheap items as they can, making each other, and the actually kind people participating in it, suffer even further.

Needless to say for the various injuries and fights people tend to get in during this time, and while far less common, deaths aren't unheard of either.

I got a laptop cooling pad for Black Friday so far. Waiting for some nice steam deals.

Speaking of money, the fuel is impossibly cheap where I live. (1.02$/L or 3.86$/gl)

Last time they were that low, I was still in elementary! (over 6 years ago!)

All I can conclude is that smart shopping is hard for some people.

131
People shop on Black Friday to "save".

But you have to spend money to supposedly "save" it
Well there are some deals where you actually save money. You just have to be cautious about the deals cuz of aforementioned reasons.

Heh. I'd never take my chances with Black Friday. At least not at places like Target or Walmart. Other stores I'd typically go to aren't usually quite as awful to my knowledge, the worst I'd probably have to worry about is the parking. Online deals are out there too, so I could consider those if I really wanted to.

Black Friday aside though, how was Thanksgiving for those celebrating it today? I had a very good time with my family during dinner (and of course I enjoyed the food as well :p) going to have a slice of Pumpkin Pie momentarily. Also going to watch the Peanuts Thanksgiving special as per our tradition.
