Sorry for the questions. Ever since I became a vampire, I became much, MUCH more curious about the supernatural and other things like that.

Well, the more complicated process through which the mages used (actually simpler to perform, but much a more difficult experience for the one it's being performed on) requires you to travel through several other dimensions from the afterlife's Phantom Realm to reach the dimension which Earth is present in, while at the same time performing spells and processes to return your spirit to your body and heal it's wounds, bringing the dead back to life.

You could've actually fallen from any direction, the mages weren't powerful or skilled enough to gain control of that either. Heck, the portal could've opened up on the ground of Earth somewhere and you'd be thrown up and out of it, before Earth's gravity would take effect and cause you to fall down even still.

Not really. Some might have some personal rivalries, but that's it.
