Even with how loving and understanding my family is, I'm just worried they'd start worrying about me if they knew I liked it this much (knowing I like the cartoon is one thing: being active in a vocal fanbase with interest in fanart is another..) so it might wind up making things a bit awkward for a a while when they don't even need to be.

In truth I'm probably not worried about much....so I'll probably get out of it someday....

If you don't mind me saying, I do suggest trying at least something; maybe by dropping a few trial balloons (political term is political), meaning some small random conversations here and there related to the subject.
The fact that I'm into stuff that my parents see as "childish" made discussing My Little Pony easier for me. I'm not sure if the same can apply to your case or not. Or if you want a maturer route, you could talk about MLP's appeals in writing, humor, and messages. Just do whatever feels right to you I guess.
