A Baker's dozen!

Wait bakers don't make Bob-ombs.....where do Bob-ombs come from anyway? Are they a natural species in the Mushroom Kingdom or were they originally manufactured somewhere?

Bob-ombs have gotta be manufactured. What if they're not part of the Koopa Troop?

Bob-oms are like truffles. People use specially trained Peach's to pull them, they have a very slim chance, but Armada has almost mastered it.

Well games like Paper Mario and various sports/party spin-offs indicates that while many work as soldiers for Bowser, the entire species is not dedicated to serving him (far from it) and many are indeed friendly or have their own purposes that they serve. Same goes for Goombas, and even Koopas (although Bowser is their king....it just goes to show not all of them are malicious like their ruler himself and many simply do not serve his army, and others don't even live under his rule. It's like an actual real world society in a way when you really think about it...).

If they were manufactured it seems more likely that they'd all be in service of Bowser. So perhaps they are a more "natural" sort of species...

152 some of the chemicals must have made the bombs become alive
Well, you did say "Mutated Bob-ombs" and not "Mutated Bombs" at first, so.. :p

Current record is around 620 something actually.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about those. They're called Bob-omb Buddies. I wish they would show up in more games than they did, In the main platformer series they've only showed up in 64, it's DS remake and Galaxy 2.

Fun fact:
If you go to training mode (Melee), choose Final Destination and pull a regular turnip, grab the ledge and get up from it (a non-roll), then throw it at Captain Falcon (after he's fell from that little cloud / platform thing) he'll die at 548%.
