Black Craft Whiskey Sponsors Abate, Pittsburgh Smash Community

Today, world-renowned Luigi specialist Stephen "Abate" Abate announced that Black Craft Whiskey will support him and the rest of the Pittsburgh Smash Community for the entirety of 2017. Along with the sponsorship, Abate and Black Craft are starting a livestreamed bi-weekly bar tournament series in Pittsburgh.

Abate’s Luigi performed particularly well at The Big House 5. As a Midwest player who doesn’t travel much, Abate often misses out on a spot in the limelight – TBH 5 proved that he most definitely deserves one. His Top 64 run included a win over Jeffrey "Axe" Williamson and a victory over Johnny "S2J" Kim that few people saw coming. Overall, Abate's performance showed that even this late into Super Smash Bros. Melee’s life cycle, we may yet see new characters rise to the forefront.

Earlier in 2016, Abate made an announcement via Facebook that he would be taking a 6 to 8 month break from travelling to events, instead prioritizing his personal life. We have seen Abate attend a few tournaments this year, such as The Big House 6 and local tournaments, but his overall activity rate was low throughout 2016.

Now that Abate has gained the support of Black Craft, we can hope to see a lot more of him in 2017. This will of course include appearances at his sponsor's new bar tournament.

Author's Note: Are you guys excited to see more of Abate and his spectacular Luigi in 2017? I am! As a Luigi main, I am especially happy to see more active Luigi representation. If you want to keep up with any updates on Abate and where his next event may be, follow him on Twitter. Also, stay tuned to Smashboards for more sponsorship-related news.
